Casey James - American Idol's Dark Horse
The judges try to minimize everything Casey James does. They feel Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox are the two front-runners that will make it to the final two. The judges like to talk about Lee and Crystal and seem to forget Casey is still in the running. Even Ryan Seacrest has recently tried to minimize James by saying that the girls vote for his looks.
His looks may have been what interested many to check Casey James out, but his voice, his amazing guitar playing and his ability to take all the criticism in stride and still come back and to make any song his own is what is keeping James fans devoted to him and all that is what is gaining him more fans every day.
The judges have told Casey he needs to step up his performances but yet when he comes out and rocks out with his guitar they tell him he needs to just come out and sing. Casey then comes out and sings a touching slow song and touches the heart of his fans but then the judges tell him he looks uncomfortable. They must be seeing and hearing something I am not. I love Casey rocking it. The Power of Love is one of my favorites. However Heaven, Jealous Guy, Don't and Mrs. Robinson are the songs I think Casey really shined on. Shania Twain's "Don't" is in my opinion James best vocal to date and the best vocal of the entire season. American Idol can try as hard as they want to minimize Casey James but none of that matters in the end. What matters are the people at home watching and voting. They are who decides who wins this.
American Idol seems to forget that last year's winner Kris Allen was the dark horse. The judges were certain Kris would not make it to the finals. When he did they were sure Adam Lambert would win. However the fans decide this show and Kris Allen the dark horse rode in to the finals and became American Idol of season eight.
I have a feeling we might just see this happen again. If you think Casey James is out of the running than you may want to rethink that. Casey James has a huge demographic of fans. All ages and genders from all over the world support Casey James and this dark horse has an amazing chance to ride this race to the end and end up in the front of the pack. At first, I just thought Casey was cute and a great guitarist but he grew on me. And while the judges slathered praise on Crystal for "always being true to who she is", they then would tell Casey that how his performances were lazy, boring etc...Casey basically stayed the same every wk just like Crystal. I can't see myself hearing anything she performed this season on the radio and feeling the need to rush out and buy it. Overall, this was just a weird season...missing the Bo/Carrie dynamic, the Davids, and someone truly fun to watch perform like Adam was. Almost feeling relief that it is over. Disappointing season.

I agree either way Casey will succeed. He has true talent and his homecoming concert showed how amazing he really is. I stuck between wanting him to win and wanting him to be free. You are correct Trophy Wife about how they treat those "They" don't want. The way they have treated and disrespected Taylor Hicks is appalling. Radio play would have gotten Taylor out to the masses. If Casey does win I can see them doing him the same way they have done Taylor because he is not"their" chosen one. But Taylor is doing awesome and his fans love and support him all the way and the same will be true for Casey James.
I think Casey is done with Idol. How can he look so happy and relaxed just days ago and then you could read it all over his face that he knew no matter what he did he wasn't wanted. I just felt sorry for him. Like a kid at the party who was invited but just b/c the whole class was. He's ready to shine. He's got the talent and he's been noticed. He doesn't want the stupid Idol contract and crown. If you get it and you weren't the chosen one they bury you like Taylor and Kris. No promotion at all. Hell they never mentioned Kris Allen this season and he's got a new album out. I really only 1/2 watched Idol anyway I was sucked in this year because of Casey. Thanks for exposing him to the world we're ready to see him live. Now I will NOT spend one dime on Idol Live tickets or merchandise. Won't support the fraud. I WILL be front and center at Casey James first concert and buy everyone of his CD's. Casey James fan for life!
I agree...Lee is always off key and he is not current and neither is Crystal. The judges spent all season hyping her up when better performers were having to sit through all the hype and were voted off too early. American Idol is suffering for this because they have a lame show due to it. Casey is the only one left that has a better sound and plays guitar wonderfully. He plays better than Crystal and Lee and does not need to put a harmonica in his mouth. I hope he wins because really after the show is when the real idol starts because it is not easy to make it in the music industry and there are a couple voted off too early that also might prove to be the real idol.
