Casey James Rocks: Casey James Medley

Showcasing Casey James' Undeniable Talent

Valerie Ferrari
For the second time in a row, Casey James, the good-looking 6'4" Texan from Fort Worth, found himself in the bottom two on Elimination Night in American Idol 9 on April 28th. He narrowly escaped the axe when quirky singer, Siobhan Magnus was sent home.

His fans are really worried that next week will be the last round-up for Casey and they feel he is not getting a fair shake from the judges compared to the other contestants.

And there is some truth to that. Two of Casey's last songs won him a lot of praise: "Jealous Guy" and "Don't." In between, he was criticized for a 'forgettable song' with 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy,' but somehow it's been forgotten that Casey was told his vocals were good. It was not his singing the judges did not like, they just didn't like the song. "Don't Stop" was criticized as a 'lazy' song choice that was not inspirational.

The weird thing about those criticisms is that the judges have been acting like kids, criticizing contestants for picking songs on a list they were given by the show itself.

But since when has anything the judges have to say had any real influence on the outcome?

This is what I've been wondering and it got me to reading the Fort Worth Telegraph this morning. They really didn't have much to say about their homeboy except to note that he had landed in the bottom two again, and apparently weren't happy about Ryan Seacrest referring to Casey as a "construction worker."

The Dallas/Fort Worth area is a huge metropolis and if they want to see their boy get in the Top 3, they need to step up to the plate and vote. So c'mon folks, let's get out there and vote for Casey next week.

As he sings at the end of this video: Don't tell him to go.

Even here in Houston, when our local gal, Kady Malloy, just missed the top 12 on Season 7 of American Idol, we backed her up 100%. We even bring her out every year to give her opinion of the current season and also see what she's up to.

UPDATE: Casey James Safe: Casey James appeared during the beginning of the elimination show saying "Don't take my guitar away again. We see what happens." He appeared to be in good spirits and when Ryan asked him ...

Songs fans would like to see Casey James sing:

Sparky: "i would love to see casey james sing simple man by shinedown, just sitting on a stool playing his acoustic guitar. i think the range of his voice would show and blow the judges away."

Tim: "Casey should sing the slow version of the Jackson Browne song.."Sky blue and black" it's the best song ever written..and he could have his "moment". It would be amazing!"

Terine: "Casey,I heard Gorden light foot: If you could read my mind and your voice started to play in my mind. Also, look at us the viewer when the camera come up and sing it to Cara. You have it!"

Thanks Kate ... uh, how's the pay?

  • kate dierks5/11/2010

You can be my publicist when my book comes out.

  • Valerie Ferrari5/11/2010

No, I'm not Casey James' publicist, but if the pay is good, I'm certainly available.

I'm guessing that, contrary to previous comments, you either DO really "care" who wins A.I. this year (and, obviously, you are a big Casey James fan) or else you work as his publicist. Otherwise, why drum up this much support for the weakest singer left? And, yes, he IS the total package, Carman...I totally agree with you on the "packaging" element...but he can't hold a candle, vocally, to Crystal, Lee, Big Mike or Aaron, on tne night that Aaron sang "Fly Me to the Moon" and was eliminated instead of the extremely off-key Casey.

    Great words of encouragement!

Good article. Casey is the total package, probably the most talented person AI has ever seen. I think him being made out to be a pretty boy in the beginning caused a lot of people to dismiss his talents, and probably turned a lot of people off. Honestly, when I saw him perform I wasn't paying as much attention to his voice or guitar playing as I was his looks. It wasn't till I went back and just listened to his performances and some pre idol songs that I fully appreciated his voice. I recommend you go back and just listen to his songs. Also, check him out on YouTube, search Casey James and Crossover, you won't be disappointed.

    Good recap.

  • Pearl Grace4/29/2010

Good write-up. I agree with Msrk below--Don't give the contestants a song list to choose from then criticize them for the songs they chose.

  • Mark Hudziak4/29/2010

If the contestants have to pick from a list of songs, the judges should focus on how well the contestants perform those songs, not tell them they picked a bad one.
