The Casey James thread on the American Idol message board was on fire last night after the show and Casey's fans were urged not only to vote, vote, vote for the guitar man, but also to speak out against American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi for her 'sheepish' remarks in yesterday's Frank Sinatra tribute, when she told Casey that he sounded like a lamb during his rendition of "Blue Skies."
Right after the Frank Sinatra show that prompted almost unanimous dire results for Casey, Vote for the Worst tweeted that there was a last minute switch and they wanted their followers to vote for Casey and not Michael Lynche.
The effect of these two forces landed Casey James in the top three vote-getters on results night. Aaron Kelly and Michael Lynche got the lowest votes, with 17 year old Aaron Kelly leaving. (Hey I'm not like Ryan Seacrest, dragging it out till the bitter end).
Casey James appeared during the beginning of the elimination show saying "Don't take my guitar away again. We see what happens." He appeared to be in good spirits and when Ryan asked him later in the show how he felt, he said he gave it his all on Tuesday night and the rest of it wasn't within his control. Ryan did bring up Kara's remark before sending Casey to stand with Crystal Bowersox. Casey gave a wry smile and said "thanks." At least he displayed a nice sense of humor about it, because I'm here to tell you that his fans seriously wanted to tar and feather Kara, or at least get her fired.
At that point, Lee DeWyze was the only one who had been announced as safe. Now there were Crystal and Casey on one side and Mike and Aaron on the other. Ryan asked Lee DeWyze who he thought was safe and who the bottom two were. Lee did not want to venture a guess, and in view of last week's switcharoo when Siobhan was pulled out of a seemingly safe situation, neither did I.
Performances tonight included: The contestants singing a medley of Sinatra songs and they also sang a medley of Harry Connick, Jr. songs. We were also treated to a Lady Gaga live performance of "Alejandro" with a bunch of half-dressed male dancers. I don't know about you, but I find all that stuff Gaga wears around her head distracting. I don't know how she breathes, let alone sings.
Harry Connick, Jr. also performed singing a Beatles song "And I Love Her." It was "aight, dawg," but if you even think of getting it for your iPod, you need the original from the 1964 "Hard Day's Night" album. (see the Beatles (with Paul McCartney on lead) perform "And I Love Her" - trust me, it's great). Music trivia: There was a dispute between Paul McCartney and John Lennon over who wrote the "middle eight:" John Lennon claimed in a "Playboy" interview that he came up with that part, while Paul McCartney has always insisted he wrote the whole song himself.
"A love like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me"
Back to American Idol, what else do we need to know? In my show recap, I said that Big Mike better not be in the bottom two and he was. But even before the show began, a friend and I arrived at the conclusion that Casey, Aaron and Big Mike were going home between tonight and the next two eliminations. We decided that all things considered, it really didn't make a whole hell of a lot of difference in what order they left. Since Casey wasn't even in the bottom two this week, we better not make book on our predictions just yet.
It was ironic, to say the least, that when Casey gave a great performance in Shania Twain Week, he ended up in the bottom 2, and when Mike did the most justice to Sinatra Week, he ended up in the bottom 2!
Next week, comedian/actor Jamie Foxx will mentor the Top 4 as they slaughter -- I mean, sing Songs from the Cinema. See the list here.

Great recap. I still think Casey is overall one of the better ones out of the top 12. Mike just rubs me the wrong way.
