How Not to Spend Your Spring Break

Danielle Stone
I had just returned from California for spring break. The end of the week was to be spent at Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut with my boyfriend and three of our friends. We had a hotel room reserved, but when one friend received a coupon for an additional complimentary room, we decided to leave the day before in order to take advantage of this new deal.

I was still struggling with jet lag when we had to get going the next morning. Not only was I exhausted, but had caught a cold at the airport. With a raging sore throat, I squeezed into the back seat of the car with two of my friends and we headed toward the casino.

We hadn't gone far when it began to snow. By the time we reached the casino, it was a winter wonderland outside. So much for spring break. We had been assured there were plenty of rooms available, but because of the snow, those staying at the hotel had opted to stay another night. Therefore, we had no place to stay.

We went inside and played slots in the near-vacant casino anyway, even though I would have much rather been asleep in bed. One friend got in trouble with the casino staff and ended up on surveillance. It was so bad that he's permanently banned from the casino! It was worst spring break ever. It certainly pays to follow the original plan!
