Casino Poker in the Atlantic City of New Jersey

A.J. Shupack
I live on the south Jersey shore. I moved here for a few reasons. One of which was the poker. I know Atlantic city's card rooms in and out. I hop on the A.C. expressway and in five minutes I am seeing the lights. From the north I see the purple Borgata and to the south I see all the way down to the new yellow-orange quarter at the Trop and old city favorite, The Hilton. If you want to play poker in A.C. here is the lowdown.

To start off, when you come down the A.C. expressway into AC you run smack into whats called 'the strip". That is the main stretch where the majority of all the casinos in town reside. The other side of town, about a 10 minute drive from "the strip" towards the harbor and marina area is off the beaten path. The marina is a more laid back part of town containing literally the best and worst in town as far as poker has to offer. On and off the strip is a variety of poker. Almost every other casino along the famous boardwalk has some form of poker. I will mention the poker rooms that are worth going too. There might be a few others, but not too many regulars frequent them and there is a reason for that.

In the smaller part of town, off the strip is the more quiet secluded Atlantic city. The marina district is home to The Trump Marina. Trump Marinia which caters to all kinds of yacht and boat travelers and is one of The Donald's less posh resorts. The Trump Marina does not have poker though so lets not waste time on that. The Next Offering is Harrahs. Harrah's does have a beautiful casino and a property with decent rooms and prices. Harrah's is host to the W.S.O.P. circuit events and is a hub of activity once a year for that. However, Harrahs A.C. has very limited poker most of the year. You are lucky to find a $2-5 NL game and most of the action is in the realm of $2-4 and $3-6 Limit, with a few tables of $1-2 NL. Harrah's also has small buy in tournaments, call their poker room for daily information
The next poker room in the marina is what you have been looking for. The Borgata is fantastic in almost every way. The newly renovated poker room boasts a huge table count and every game you can imagine. Plasma screen T.V.'s are everywhere, tables have automatic shufflers, chips are clean ans smooth, everything is perfect. The action at rhe Borgats is fast and the players are not all fish, so watch your chips to the sharks. After a quick double up head right below the Borgata's poker room for snack at their awesome food court or to one of Borgata's premier eateries. Basically, in the Marina for small stakes and low limits and those new to poker, head to Harrahs. Otherwise you can't go wrong with A.C.'s hottest property The Borgata The hold oll the major tournaments and have everything poker can offer a player.

You should make sure to visit "The Strip" in Atlantic City when in town. If you take my advice, here are the poker spots to put on your list when on the boardwalk. The first property starting north to south on boardwalk is the Showboat. The Showboat is a mardi Gras themed casino and has very limited poker and small buy in tournaments much like its sister property Harrahs. The next in line is the famous Taj Mahal. Touted in movies and still one of the biggest, the Taj is a real poker room with plenty of games and limits. Their large poker room affords players with roomy surroundings and never too long a wait. The Taj is not a ritzy poker room by any stretch of the imagination. The Taj is however, real poker when you want it. The next casino is Ballys. Ballys has an upstairs poker room connected to the sports book and has med to low limit hold em in limit and no limit varieties. Ballys has a weekly tournament schedule and tends to cater to the younger and newer poker players. Right next to Ballys is Caesars. Caesars has a really nice, clean looking poker room. It's new tables, large room and flat screen T.V.s 's remind me of the Borgata. Although Caesars has $1-2 and $2-5 and nightly tournaments, it still has not become a favorite and hence is never too busy.

After a nice walk from Caesars to The Tropicana you are happy to see such a thriving, well maintained and old fashion card room. The Trop is famous for good comps for poker players, a good list of games always available and a knowledgeable staff. A large poker room with nightly tournaments, it's one of my favorite spots. The Trop has great weekend tournaments with big prize pools and your spouse will love the newly designed "quarter" with its shops, spa, nghtclubs, and restaurants. The quarter is right out of Vegas and I have to admit is the only real rival to The Borgata as a whole, besides maybe the Pier at Caesars. Finally is the Hilton. The Hilton just renovated its poker room in perfect concert with the poker boom. The Hilton has a large, state of the art poker room with plenty of action. The Hilton is one of the oldest casinos, but is brand new to poker and made is prescence known. They offer big prize pool tournaments like only a few others in town and is a real fun place to play.

Go and play poker. Visit Atlantic City. I hope the knowledge I have given you helps you decide where to go so you'll be most comfortable. I wish you success in your quest for big pots and positive results. Poker is fun if you stay in your league and limits. Always familiarize yourself with whatever casino game you are playing prior to investing any of our hard earned money. Remember, if you feel uncomfortable and unhappy at table you are seated at, then leave ! You can't play your game if your not in the zone. There is plenty of poker to choose from in this town.

Always remember, poker is more than just pulling a one armed bandit and hoping for the best. A little patience and knowledge can go a long way.

Good luck at the tables !
