Casinos are Full of Games, Not Get Rich Quick Schemes

Casinos can be a great time killer or a huge money waster. Sometimes the casinos can be both. But, more often than not a casino is a good place to have a little fun and maybe make a few extra bucks. You may go to the casino and break even one time, the next time you win big, and the following time you lose your shirt playing games at the casino. Knowing that the casino games are meant for entertainment purposes only will greatly increase the amount of fun you have each time you go to the casino.

Why do I say that a casino is for entertainment purposes only? Well, for one, the casino generally has a posting somewhere that says something of that nature. Not only that, but, the house will always have the advantage. Consider the casino as your older brother being the banker in Monopoly. You know you will lose because he controls the money. My brother always won at Monopoly and I could never understand why until I became an adult. He controlled the money, who it went to, and how much he could pocket without me noticing it.

Now, I am not suggesting that the casinos are cheating. Technically they aren't. They are mandated by law to pay out a certain percentage. This does not mean that YOU as an individual will see those payouts. The casino can payout that whole percentage to one person or spread it out very thinly over a lot of gamblers. Knowing that the casino has to pay out a certain percentage of money does not increase your odds of winning. In fact, this may hamper your odds.

For instance, did you know that slots are not random? It is easy to believe that if you line up the reels or press stop at the right time that you are more likely to win. It isn't. There is a device inside of the slot machine that is set to pay out a certain amount of money. That slot machine is set to know when it is time to pay out and when it is time to limit the amount of winnings. Once the machine has X amount of dollars in it, it is time to start paying out the mandated percentage that the casino has set. So, if you are sitting at a machine and you win $20, then, a little later you win a bigger pay out, and later you win more, you might want to sit at that machine for a while. It is obviously time for that machine to pay out. On the other hand, the casino may have this slot machine set to only pay out X amount of times.

It is hard to know when is the best time to focus on any given slot machine unless you are the guy that set the payout equation or you have deep connections to that guy. Just don't fall under the assumption that you control what the slot machine pays out because that is so not true. You cannot "will" the machine to pay out either unless you have read "The Secret" umpteen times.

If you think that playing the penny slots is the cheap route to go you may be wrong. Playing the penny slots is not always the cheaper route to go in the casino. Many of the slot machines allow you to bet multiple lines and multiple plays per line. For example, if you bet for nine lines at ten cents a line, you have just spent ninety cents for one play. You could have gone to the dollar machines and had a better chance of a higher payout playing with that almost dollar.

If you are not an expert poker player or Black Jack player you may want to steer clear of the table games. Just because you do really good playing with friends and family does not mean you will be able to belly up to the game tables in a casino. You also have to be careful of professional gamblers that will be all too eager to take your money. Many professional gamblers have studied the art of game faces and what you thought was the perfect poker face is a neon sign to professional gamblers. Before you decide to go to the poker, Black Jack, or other gaming table you need to study the art of betting and other proper casino gambling etiquette. You do not want to rely on the dealer to explain the rules to you.

So, whether you go to the casino to have fun or to spend money the important thing is to not take anything too personally. Casinos are just buildings with many games inside. Some of these games are fun, some of these games pay money, and some of these games will empty your wallet. But, if you are having fun, then you are really playing the game the right way. But never play a table game with your older brother being the dealer. You will always lose.
