Castle Crashers Landing on Playstation 3

The best-selling Xbox Live Arcade game, Castle Crashers, is no longer exclusive to the Xbox 360. The downloadable game is now heading to the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3 after a year of exclusivity.

The Behemoth is the developer behind Castle Crashers. Founded in 2002, the development company quickly gained fame with their first title. Alien Hominid is a free flash game featuring an old-school side-scrolling shoot 'em up feel similar to games like Contra. After the tremendous popularity of the free flash version, The Behemoth decided to commercialize their popular product.

As a result, a more beefed up version on Alien Hominid was released in 2007 for the Nintendo Gamecube and Playstation 2. The game was also released for the PC, Xbox and Game Boy Advance in Europe only. Finally, the Xbox 360 got its own iteration of Alien Hominid in 2007 when Alien Hominid HD was released in 2007.

While Alien Hominid was released on multiple systems, The Behemoth decided to develop their next game only for the Xbox Live Arcade of the Xbox 360. Thus, Castle Crashers was released exclusively on Microsoft's system.

The Behemoth's second title is a lot similar to the first in which it beckons back to an old-school genre. This time, Castle Crashers is based on the side-scrolling beat 'em up genre of the past. However, the game adds plenty of depth with several role-playing elements in addition to robust multiplayer features.

Not many people would have guessed that Castle Crashers would eventually be ported over to the Playstation 3. For one, more than a million players have played the game on the Xbox 360, a remarkable achievement for a downloadable title. Furthermore, Microsoft also helped The Behemoth publish the game for the Xbox Live Arcade.

As it turns out, Castle Crashers is now heading to the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3. This isn't the first time a Microsoft-published game as later appeared on the Playstation 3. Despite being published by Microsoft Games Studio, Ninja Gaiden II is being ported to the Playstation 3 as well under the name of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

A possible reason for this occurrence is that, while Microsoft publishes the game, they don't own the intellectual property. Thus, games like Castle Crashers can be ported to other systems down the road once the exclusivity contract runs out.

Not much is known for the Playstation 3 version of Castle Crashers other than that it is in fact coming to the system. Even with no release date or and other details, Playstation 3 fans are still happy for having a chance to play one of the best games on the Xbox 360.
