Castle and Beckett investigate the murder of a millionaire matchmaker, while the entire team is knocked off guard by the presence of a celebrity on-scene. Castle initially takes exception to her presence because he was not asked for permission for her to tail Beckett. Should he have been? He considers himself a celebrity on the scene every day and takes exception to the fact that a character he created is going to outshine him among the staff. And he is jealous of anyone who is in Detective Kate Beckett's personal space other than himself.
Castle reveals what he thinks about Detective Beckett when talking about his character, Nikki Heat. He describes his fictitious detective as smart, classy, and complicated, with a lot of depth. It is all too obvious that he is sharing his thoughts about Beckett. He isn't even sure Natalie Rhodes has what it takes to bring the role of Detective Nikki Heat to life.
He is further agitated because Beckett and Natalie like each other, and Natalie initially takes to Beckett while completely ignoring him.
The tables are turned when Natalie Rhodes starts doing a better Beckett than Detective Beckett does herself. Beckett gets agitated and Castle gets turned on.
Although Castle is reticent at first about the presence of Natalie Rhodes it isn't long until Natalie makes efforts to turn Castle's head. Of course she is just trying to get into her character's head? After all, she understands the sexual tension in the novel is a metaphor for Castle's fantasies about Beckett. She goes after Beckett as part of her acting investigation, which disgusts Beckett and is pretty nauseating to watch when you know Beckett and Castle are the two who need to hook up.
Beckett's mind was put at ease when she found out that Castle turned down a night with Natalie Rhodes under the guise of Nikki Heat.
