Castle Guardian: Flash-based Castle-defending Animation Game

Castle Guardian is a Flash-based action game created by Newgrounds.com user agitatedferret and Newgrounds.com artist Kamikaye, with additional art credited to Newgrounds.com user jouste. According to the in-game credits, Castle Guardian was developed by Christopher Gregorio, and the music was done by Nemesis Theory. Sponsorship was credited to Agitated ferret. Castle Guardian was submitted to Newgrounds.com on August 13, 2010 and won a prestigious Daily Feature award on August 14, 2010. It currently holds a score of 3.98 out of 5.00 based on votes by the Newgrounds.com community. Game Background

Castle Guardian features over ten different types of enemies and twenty days of fighting.

Gameplay

The objective of Castle Guardian is to defend your castle from enemies. Use your mouse to click on enemies to attack them. You can also purchase archers and/or magicians to help you out.

Along with archers and magicians, there are a number of other things that you can purchase with the money you obtained during combat. These include the following:

-increase the strength of your attack

-increase your coin-obtaining radius to make it easier to collect money

-increase health

-increase health regeneration speed

-increase length of the special rage mode

-increase the amount of money you pick up

At the top left-hand corner of the screen, you can see which day (out of twenty) you are on. To the right of that is the health bar of your castle. The timer for each day is to the right of the health bar. At the top right-hand corner of the screen is the amount of money you currently have to use.

Enemies will generally attack from the bottom of the screen. Click on them to destroy your enemies.

As you play, you will unlock achievements that will appear at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

At the end of each day, you will receive a performance report that will list the following:

-the number of days you have completed

-the number of kills made

-the number of achievements you have obtained out of 85

-the amount of money you have

Game Review

If you enjoy castle-defending clicking games, then you will enjoy Castle Guardian. There are a good number of purchasable upgrades. The inclusion of archers and mages also breaks up the monotony of clicking. However, with only 20 days of combat, this submission is relatively short, compared to other castle-defending Flash-based animations.

Castle Guardian scores a 7/10 for its solid gameplay and good level of entertainment.
