Castle: Potentially the Funniest Crime Drama on Television

Stacy J. Day
I usually don't think of crime dramas as funny, at least not since Monk. To me, most crime or police dramas are serious and sometimes leave me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Ever since Castle's debut, I've finally found a replacement for Monk, since I used to love watching this show every Friday night. Monk was funny, but Castle is hilarious, which in my opinion makes Castle even more entertaining addictive.

One thing that is extremely funny about Castle is the fact that while helping Detective Kate Beckett solve various murders throughout New York City, he never fails to come up with the most ridiculous and absurd suggestions and/or theories. Sometimes his theories are very accurate, but when they're not, they're usually hilarious. Kate is often annoyed by the absurd remarks that Castle makes yet she can't help being drawn to him.

Another very funny aspect of the hit TV show Castle is Castle's mom, Martha Rodgers. Martha has moved in with Castle and his teenage daughter, Alexis. It's quite comical to watch Martha behave like a 21-year-old in the body of a 60-year-old. She dresses like a much younger woman and also demands attention. Maybe she's this way due to the fact that she is a former Broadway actress, but whatever the reason she acts much younger than her actual age, she is fun to watch. You never know what Martha's going to do next. In a recent episode, Martha rushed out to go to the store after her 15-year-old granddaughter failed to get the main character part in a play. The ice cream was supposed to make the girl feel better, but unbeknownst to Martha, Alexis had decided she didn't want the part anyway and wasn't upset in the least about not getting it.

There are also aspects of the show not related to humor that make the show very appealing. For one, Nick Castle is one good-looking man, despite his "dorkiness". It's also interesting to watch the different murders, which often leave me in a great deal of suspense as I try to figure out "who did it" and why. A very recent episode was also quite appealing because of the male strippers in a club that Castle and Kate had to visit for clues. It was exciting to see the strippers, and of course Castle handled himself in his usual manner-extremely funny. If you've never seen this show, you don't know what you're missing, because it'll definitely make you laugh and you'll want to watch it again and again.
