On July 18th of this year Castleberry in Augusta, Georgia, announced a voluntary recall of some of it's canned foods due to the possibility of botulinum toxin, a toxin which can cause botulism.

The recall list was expanded on July 21st as more items were found to be tainted. The plant has currently shut down and is not shipping any more product until the company and the FDA are certain that all suspected cans have been removed from store shelves and warehouses.

On it's website the FDA has listed what consumers and retailers should do if they suspect they have some of the tainted cans on their shelves. The main ideas are to make sure you wear rubber gloves or wash your hands thoroughly after handling the cans and make sure you dispose of them properly.

For more information from the FDA, click on here,http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/castleberry08_07.html , which contains a listing of all types and sizes of the Castleberry recalled foods, with the proper handling and removal procedures.

The Castleberry website also contains the same information and includes a point of contact in the company in case you need any further information. Their website is http://www.castleberrys.com/RetailRemoval.asp .

I'm a wolf. I live in a cave somewhere in the wilds of Kentucky. Not much to do around here, since the hunting dried up. What with all the coal mining and tourists a wolf cant find a decent meal anymore....  View profile
