Team Looks Confident Headed into Spring Training

City officials in Mesa AZ have approved a deal that will keep the Cubs coming back for spring training for at least the next 25 years. With this deal, Mesa has agreed to build a $84 million stadium and training facility for the Cubs. That's good news headed into spring training. The Cubs can go in knowing they will continue to be in Arizona for a long time. Being comfortable with your surroundings is key for baseball players, especially for these young players.

The Cub's top prospect, short stop Starlin Castro heads in to spring training feeling ready and confident. He will be looking to be a starter and help contribute to the Cubs winning their division. Starlin is now ranked 22nd among baseball's top prospects, according to cubs.com.

The Cubs are looking to sign a one-year deal with outfielder Xavier Nady. Nady, coming off Tommy John surgery still needs to pass his physical. Nady is now 31 and had a healthy season back in 2008 where he hit .305 with 25 homeruns and 97 RBIs with the Pirates and the Yankees.

The Cubs and left hander Sean Marshall are able to avoid arbitration. Marshall signed a one-year deal, and the club hasn't announced the terms of the deal. The team was also able to sign other arbitration-eligible players Jeff Baker, Tom Gorzelanny, Mike Fontenot, Angel Guzman, and Koyie Hill.

The Cubs are confident headed into to spring training this year. With the strong bats of Derrick Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and Alfonso Soriano the Cubs look towards winning their division and making a run in the playoffs. Led by pitcher Carlos Zambrano, and youngster Randy Wells the Cubs rotation looks to be solid. Cubs manager Lou Piniella seems excited about this years time and hopes they will be able to bring Chicago another world series.
