Cat Care Tips for Teeth Brushing, Staying Quiet and Leaving the Toilet Tissue Alone

Cats, like any pets, have their idiosyncrasies. Learning how to deal with those odd behaviors is something each cat owner has to learn and these cat care tips can help.

Brushing Your Cat's Teeth

Gently ease your cat into a routine of brushing with this tip, which will work for kittens or adults cats. During daily petting sessions, dip the tip of your finger in tuna water and allow your cat to lick it off. After a couple of weeks, start rubbing his teeth with your tuna flavored finger. When he seems comfortable with that, dip a baby's toothbrush in the tuna water and gently begin to brush his teeth. Then, once your cat seems comfortable with the toothbrush, switch to tuna flavored feline toothpaste.

Progress from one step to another of the tooth brushing routine very slowly. If your cat rebels against a new step, stick with the old one for awhile longer.

Keep Kitty Quiet All Night

You put fresh food and water in his bowls just before bed time. You make sure the area is safe and his bed fluffed, yet he still starts meowing in the middle of the night. You've added a hot water bottle to his bed, nearby is a ticking alarm clock or a radio tuned to a white noise station to keep him company, yet he still meows during the night. Blame the one thing you've overlooked; the darkness. Cats have good night vision, but they don't feel safe in the dark, that's why they meow at night. Place a night light near your cat's bed and litter box so he will feel secure and stay quiet all night.

Leave Toilet Tissue Alone

Every pet owner with an indoor cat has experienced the dreaded unrolled roll of toilet paper at some point. Cleanup is not fun and scolding Kitty won't prevent it from happening again. Keeping the bathroom door shut works, in theory, but the day always comes when someone forgets to close the door. Use this trick so Kitty will leave the toilet paper alone - Install the roll of tissue paper so it will roll under the dispenser bar, not over. Kitty can't figure out how to unroll the roll from the underside, so he will eventually get bored and leave it alone.
