Cat Healthcare Books

Jennifer Kirkman
There are many cat health books out there on the market. Some better than others. One such good book is Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by veterinary author Debra M. Eldredge. This book is wonderful, and has several cat related health topics such as:

Caring for burns on your cat
Dehydration and your cat
Dealing with electric shocks and burns
Hypothermia in Cats
What to do if your cat is stung by an insect
Snake Bites and Your Cat
Treating your cat for other poisons
Near drowning and your cat
A section on vaccinations
De worming your cat
Caring for your cat's coat
various feline medical problems also covered in this book

This book is worthwhile to have if you are a cat owner. I would strongly advise getting it whether you are currently a cat owner, or about to buy one.

The Cat Bible by Tracie Hotchner is another excellent cat health book source. It covers everything from adopting a stray cat, and what to expect. Health problems covered are many from possible environmental problems with disease, to the best bowls and toys, right on through their dietary needs. The book covers many behavioral issues as to why cats eat your houseplants and what to do about it, and foods that you should not feed your cat or kitten. One big section of this book is devoted to feline illnesses and how to recognize different troublesome symptoms in your feline friend.

The Humane Society of the United States Complete Guide to Health care by Wendy Christensen is comprehensive and begins with cat history, myths about the cat and the facts, and goes into whether or not your cat will be indoors or outdoors. There is some excellent advice about choosing a veterinary doctor for your feline buddy as well as what to do for emergencies. There is also a section about adopting a stray cat.

ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats by James Richards is a complete well-rounded source right from choosing the right feline buddy into cat proofing your home and a great section that gives many details about feline health problems that are common to certain breeds. Giving your cat medications is covered along with many types of cat behaviors.

All of these detailed cat owner health books are excellent. Any cat or dog owner needs to have some basic knowledge on how to handle situations with your pet, and by studying these books in detail, you will learn a lot!
