Green, red, and yellow patterned scrapbook papers
Tacky glue
Scissors
Pencil
Optional: cat themed tacks or stickers; string or ribbon
Step-by-Step Instructions to Make a Cat Shaped Bulletin Board
Note: If you cannot find a pre-cut round bulletin board, then you can make one by purchasing a roll of cork board and a piece of foam board. Cut a circle from each piece. Glue the cork board down to the foam board and let dry overnight. You will also need to purchase a hanger if you cannot find a pre-made bulletin board.
1. Place your round bulletin board shape on the scrapbook paper and lightly trace around it, leaving several inches of paper available for later use. You will probably not be able to get the whole circle traced in one motion. You can trace half the circle at a time, and then move it part way down the paper and trace it again.
2. Cut the paper uses freehand waves about an inch from the pencil line from the first color. This shape will be the fur on your cat bulletin board.
3. Cut a similar wavy shape from the second color of scrapbook paper for layering, if desired. Cut the waves freehand about 1-1/4 inches from the traced line. The papers will overlap on the finished product. Refer to the article photo for an example.
4. Glue the first paper to the back of the round bulletin board so that you can see the patterned paper peeking out from behind the board.
5. Glue the second paper to the back of the bulletin board so you can see it peeking from behind the first patterned paper.
6. Use the scraps from the second paper to cut cat outer ear shapes . Do a freehand cut technique since the ears do not need to be perfect triangles.
7. Use the scraps from the first paper and an accent paper to cut the inner cat ear shapes .
8. Glue the inner ears to the outer ears and let dry.
9. Glue the completed ear units to the back of the board so that you can see the ears from the front of the board.
Optional: Use string or ribbon to make whiskers.
10. Use cat shaped push pins to adhere your favorite photos or notes to the bulletin board.
11. Attach hanger on the back of the board, if needed.
12. Display on your wall!
