This is not referring to the fur that is on your cat's body, but the fur that kitty shreds all over your home. Cats are notorious for shedding, whether long- or short-haired.
The good news is that you can manage this issue relatively easily. Below are a few tips on keeping your house clean in spite of all that shedding.
* Sweep thoroughly before you vacuum.
If you have hardwood floors, you will want to sweep before you run the vacuum. The reason being is that it will help you get to the fine clumps of fur that gather in corners and along sideboards.
If you just ran the vacuum, then these wisps of fur would fly up in the air. They would eventually float back down, but you would have moved to another area.
Sweeping forces these clumps out into the open, and you can then more effectively catch them with your vacuum. The more you do this extra step, the faster you will get. It really helps.
* Use a rubber dishwasher glove to remove fur from linens.
That's right. Remember those rubber yellow dishwasher gloves your mom used to wear to keep her hands young looking? Well, these are great for removing fur from your linens or furniture!
Simply put on a dry glove and run it across your duvet cover or sofa. Fur will collect in little clumps, which are easily removable.
* Brush your cat daily.
For a preventative step, brush your cat daily. The cat will grow to like this, as it's like a kitty massage. Better, the brush will remove some fur that is ready to float onto your floors or carpet.
* Stay on top of the battle with the fur.
One of the key things is to get in the habit of managing your cat's shedding on a regular basis. That means you should sweep and vacuum more than once a week.
You can spot clean in areas that are particularly bad, but you need to stay on top of it. Make sure to remove that annoying fur from your sofa or other furniture regularly. And, as previously stated, brush your cat daily.
If you have an indoor cat, it will shed. So, just commit to spending a little time daily to taking control of the situation. Your family and friends will appreciate it, and you will enjoy living in a cleaner home.
