Catalogchoice.org: Eliminate Unwanted Catalogs, Protect the Environment

Using the Catalog Choice Service Can Help Protect the Environment by Cutting Down on Paper Waste

Jack Oceano
Are you tired of going to your mailbox and finding countless catalogs that go right into the trash? Are you sickened by the amount of paper - the amount of trees - that are wasted by companies in the hopes of drawing more consumers? If you've had enough, you can finally do something about it (and no, you don't need to cancel your mail). You can simply go to catalogchoice.org and opt out. Here is everything you need to know about Catalog Choice.

Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to decline paper catalogs you no longer wish to receive. It's kind of like opting out of those pesky telemarketing calls, only in this case, you're saving trees. Catalog Choice allows you to reduce the amount of unsolicited mail in your mailbox, while helping to preserve the environment.

Catalog Choice is a new service sponsored by the Ecology Service, and endorsed by the National Wildlife Federation and the National Resources Defense Council. Their mission is "to reduce the number of repeat and unsolicited catalog mailings, and to promote the adoption of sustainable industry best practices."
The benefits to the consumer are obvious: less junk mail and help protect the environment. The benefit to businesses is that they will receive lists of consumers who no longer want their catalogs, and thus, save money on paper and postage.

So, you don't have to suffer for seven years next time you order a five-dollar tee shirt from J-CREW online.

The Catalog Choice web site offers staggering environmental facts. Did you know, for instance, that over eight million tons of trees are consumed each year in the production of paper catalogs? (Half of that are probably Victoria's Secret catalogs alone).

Catalog Choice also has a FAQ section. In short, Yes, your personal information will be kept private; No, you cannot make a blanket request, you need to opt out of each individual catalog you no longer wish to receive; No, you cannot opt out of emails and newsletters using this service; Yes, you can help this service out by spreading the word, as I am doing here. (Am I great guy, or what?)

So, click on "Get Started" now, and start deciding for yourself what goes in your mailbox. Creating an account is fast and easy. You will be helping yourself by eliminating junk mail (less garbage bags - you'll save money), you'll be helping your mailman (remember, he has to carry all this crap), and last but certainly not least, you'll be helping your environment.

If you are constantly asking yourself, What can I do to go Green? Here's one way to get started. (Then you can go out and get some of those curly long-lasting light bulbs. I use them, and they work great!)

Yes!!!! Though what I hate most is receiving one new catalog every few weeks from someone I do want to receive a catalog from, just not so many.
