Cataract is the clouding of the natural lens. This situation usually dims our vision because the cataract prevents light from passing beyond the lens and focusing on the retina. Cataract is mainly in older people. It affects mostly in older age. People who are above 40 years of age are mostly affected by it. The development of cataract can not be stopped from any medications.

Following are some of the symptoms of cataract:

1.Blurred vision that is not always painful.

2.Sensitivity to light.

3.Poor night vision.

4.Need of brighter light for reading.

5.Double vision in one eye.

6.Fading colors.

Main causes of cataract include, ageing, family history, smoking, alcohol users, diabetes, long-term use of steroids, any injury to the eye, had the surgery in past, and long-term unprotected exposure to sunlight. People suffering with diabetes are at a higher risk of getting cataract.

Following are types of cataract:

# Cataracts that form after the surgery of eyes or in people who have some medical problem or is using long-term steroids. These are known as secondary cataracts.

# Some cataracts develop after some injury to the eye. This is known as traumatic cataract.

# Another types of cataract is congenital cataract which is found in new born babies or develops in early childhood.

Cataract is treated with the help of surgery which is most of the time successful. Some points should be kept in mind by the people who have had there cataract surgery. After surgery there can be itching and mild discomfort followed by fluid discharge in the eye. Always remember to take the prescribed medications including eye drops asked by the doctor on the prescribed time and days. This will help in relieving yourself from discomfort. After surgery, your eye may also become sensitive to light and touch for sometime. So, you have to take care of your eyes. Protect your eyes with eyeglasses. Do not bend too much from the waist to pick up objects from the floor after the surgery. Also avoid picking up heavy objects.

After surgery, you can quickly return to your everyday activities, but you may experience blurred vision for sometime.

You could face some problems after the surgery that includes:

# Infection.

# Bleeding.

# Inflammation.

# Loss of vision.

# High or low eye pressure.

# Double vision.

In all of the above cases, consult your doctor. Your doctor will provide you some medications for these.
