Catching that Moment

Elaine
I've been on a new quest to appreciate life. To specifically, purposefully, intentionally find that one moment in every day that stands out from all the rest and to document it as a reminder to myself, and hopefully as an inspiration to others, that if we look for them, every day has at least one moment that makes that day worth remembering. Sure, some days are more exciting than others. Some days are carbon copies of the ones before. Despite this, as I've come to see in my own observation of my days, there is consistently something in each day that makes it special. You just have to look for it.

In the past, I've succumbed to the gloomy conclusion that "I have no life" that is common for so many of us. I've whined about the "wish-I-hads," pined over the "what-ifs," let the regrets of the past and unknowns of the future freeze me in a mindset of hopelessness. Who wants to be hopeless? I think at times I convinced myself that I did. It felt sadly comfortable there. After all, if you don't expect anything or get your hopes up you won't ever be let down, right? I'll tell you this much, it's a lonely place to be. Hopelessness will put blinders on you and prevent you from seeing people and things around you that could actually give you a reason to hope -- that could actually be the "wish-I-had" standing right before you.

This was a decision I made. A decision to no longer take my days for granted. To appreciate my friends and family. To highlight the good things in each day and lift them up, beyond everything else, even if the day did hold something bad, which sometimes they do.

Every day has a moment, a highlight, something worth remembering. Look intentionally for it, it's there -- and catch it!
