Catdog's Fireworks

A week of work that began full of excitement, for it was 4^th of July that came
Dismissive to all just how quickly the fireworks would explode in their bang
Monday and Tuesday flew by, no one knowing the events to soon unfold
The workload for the week was light, the "talkers" leaving gossip untold
Soap opera drama non-existent this week, and everything was on its way
The three-day weekend we all deserved, not far from us, a bit over a day
Wednesday started like most any other hump day I remembered should
Middle of the week, headaches controlled the work we normally would
My partner in crime, my friend, and I knew we had an early day Thursday
We knew we'd run to our cars then, so today we had better do our Subway
Lunch came and went all too fast; the walk across the park even passed us
My spine began to tear me down, something was wrong, I stormed her office
Told my girl she had better get downstairs with me right that instant
I did not stop to wait; arriving on the first floor, I had left her distant
The smoking area, partially outside, I called my doctor's nurse and explained
Something had happened to my spine in the past hour, what to do I obtained
Gasping for the air I tried to breathe, my chest tightening, full of anxiety
Unless I could not go on, wait for my appointment, not to go emergency
From that moment on, the only thing certain was pain severe and being alone
I couldn't await her return, opened the door and inside I tried to get my phone
My friend and her supervisor appeared the same moment my legs gave out
An ambulance was dispatched to the building, all hearing my painful shout
Aspirin was put in my mouth, and I recall being told many times to breathe
The hallway to the only smoking area happened to call all who knew me
I have not a clue as to how long I was there, but I do know I started out standing
Then I had knees holding me as someone's neck I grabbed and was dangling
By the time the ambulance did arrive, I was laid out on the floor in pure tremor
Blocking all access in and out of the I.R.S., I flopped around like in a seizure
Paramedics, I am sure I will never recognize, gently lifted me on the stretcher
The lift that about killed me, sent me into a vomiting frenzy as they raced
Against the clock they worked to get my vitals in order, time wasn't to waste
A body so full of pain, flopping like a fish out of water, they had to contain me
Inject me quickly, and get me settled on the stretcher before they could leave
The strapping of the stretcher was not enough to keep me held down tight
With every bump in the road they found, my body tried to take some flight
The amount of morphine they injected me, wasn't equivalent to the dose I took
It was enough to relax my body long enough until the hospital could take a look
The doctor on call, believe it or not was the one who found it was my spine after all
Since the M.R.I. was within the month, he injected me and told me give the doc a call
He sent me home with no further tests to see if my spine had finally broken
To await my appointment next week, no other words that day were spoken
Lying around that night, I missed my first night of the new semester in school
Good thing, I called the dean before this happened, him being a doctor too.

This is why the Catdog hasn't been communicating right
Even why this prose doesn't make much sense tonight
The pain of her spine, not to mention, the medicine in her head
She is being a Catdog, trying to survive, tucked away in her bed.
Fifth of July it is now, her fireworks never seen this year
Only filled with misery, surgery is becoming more clear

Hoping everyone's fourth was full of fun, family, and friends
Enjoying the time you have with all of your special ones!
Our freedom is too often taken advantage of, today I cannot stand to show
The freedom I thought would always be mine, and today I surely do know
That even the simplest of things, such as having a healthy back
I took advantage of until this week, when standing tall I did lack
