Categories of Hotels in Lagos, Nigeria

Chapati
The hotel business is a real money maker for hotel owners but Lagos is full of different kinds of hotels and there are a variety of hotel establishments to choose from, some are good and some are not so good.

Categories of Lagos hotels include:

The Five and Three Star Hotels

These are the most expensive hotel establishments in Lagos and are patronised by the rich and famous. The cost of spending the night in one of these hotels could cost most Lagosians a whole month's salary, spending a night in the cheapest room could set you back sixty thousand Naira ($500) or more.

The hotel rooms are world class and very comfortable, the guests are entitled to certain perks as well. They provide world class service and the hotel surroundings have a certain je ne sais quoi about them. The security of the guests is also guaranteed.

But the problem with these hotels is that they are just too expensive and they charge customers for the tiniest service, they even charge customers for bottled water! (It is supposed be free if you are taking it with your meal).

The Posh Hotels

These are hotel establishments that are not so expensive but are very classy and are somewhat affordable for most average Lagosians. The rooms are very comfortable and the service is also nice but the only difference between a posh hotel and a 5-3 star hotels is; world-class electronic gadgets instalments. For example, electronic cardboard operated doors, CCTV monitors etc.

Spending a night in a posh hotel will cost you about ten to seven thousand Naira ($84 - $59).

Many posh hotels offer a lot of cost effective benefits to their customers but some of them do not guarantee the security of your vehicle, some of these posh hotel establishment even put up signs with inscriptions that read "cars are parked at owner's risk!"

The Cheap Hotel

These hotels are the cheapest and sleaziest excuse for hospitality. These establishments are often patronised by people who need a rendezvous to carry-on with their discreet sexual activities and it is the usual hangouts for prostitutes. The hotel services are sloppy and the environment is far from being safe because most customers are often times robbed in the middle of the night by neighbourhood thieves. These hotels charge by the hour (short time) and if a guest wishes to spend a full night, it would cost him or her (or them!) between two thousand five hundred to three thousand Naira ($21 - $25). The rooms are usually furnished with a bed, chair, TV, bathroom and a mirror.

However, the customers have to face a lot of inconveniences such as loud music, epileptic power supply (the guests are provided with candles and a match box as soon as the light goes off), possible theft of personal belongings, questionable sheets etc.

There are some decent cheap hotels but they are few and far between. Most hotels accept cash and few accept cheques. The only hotels that accept international credit cards are the 5 - 3 star hotels. Nigeria is mainly a cash society and most hotel establishment will not accept credit cards.
