Catholic Singer, Michael John Poirier: Concert Review

John Gold
I had the great privilege to go to a free concert that was led by Michael John Poirier. He is a famous Catholic singer that started the Holy Family Apostolate, which is the Catholic version of Focus on the Family. His style of singing is similar to John Michael Talbot, who is another famous Catholic singer.

His music is so well written and sung that I wouldn't be surprised if animals came out of the bushes just to come and listen. It is nearly impossible to listen to his music and not feel a sense of peace. The popular equivalent would probably be Norah Jones, but her singing is nauseating compared to what Michael John Poirier has to offer. He is not only a great singer, but he is also a great person.

I went to his concert, but I also got to meet him at a college group that I attended. The leader of the college group, was the organizer for him, so when he asked if there were any other ministries that she would like him to do, she told him about the group. He's not arrogant in any way and you would never guess that he was so famous. He usually sells out at every concert that he performs at.

He told of a story that is too amazing not to divulge. Many won't believe and I don't blame you. I'm convinced it's true because he seems to be very trustworthy. He told the story of when he was three years old and was riding across the country for Christmas. He started singing the song "Oh come all ye faithful." When he got to the part that sung, "Oh come let us adore him," he noticed that it sounded like other people were singing with him. He stopped and they would stop. He concluded that it was Mary and the choirs of angels that were joining in with him.

Fast forward to his life as a singer. He has rewritten the song to say different lyrics, so it's not a Christmas song anymore, but it still has the lyrics of "Come let us adore Him." He asks Mary and the angels to sing with him at all of his concerts. Every concert that he performs at, he has people coming up to him afterwards and they ask him if his wife was in the back singing with him. He tells them no and most accept that it was something supernatural, but some just can't believe. He tells the story of a business man that heard angelic like voices and concluded that it was a synthesizer in the back, even though he was playing acoustic. He joked that he would buy that synthesizer if he could.

The business man said that he didn't believe in religion, so he didn't believe in the supernatural. He left and another person came up to Michael John. He was a teenager and asked him who the lady was singing with him. He told him that it was Mary and the angels. The teenager cried and said that's what he thought it was.

I don't expect anyone to believe the stories because if you make up your mind about something, then you automatically consider anything outside of that belief to be false. Michael John Poirier is a great and talented musician, with a down to earth persona. He talked to me like a human being. He refused to have anyone clap after his performances because he knew that he wasn't singing for himself, but to glorify God. If you have the chance to see him live, then definitely take the time to do so.

Wow, referring to another artist as nauseating is probably not the most Christian thing to do.
