Cats: Natural Instincts Vs. Regular Behavior

Shannon Frye
You buy a cat and everything is great. The cat if fluffy, tame and friendly. All of a sudden you let the cat inside and it leaves you a nice chipmunk head on your front porch. Do not be alarmed and think your cat is a killer, all cats do this because it's an instinct to do so. They are trying to prove their worthiness to you. Cats will kill a bird or rabbit and then they will come inside and return to their normal lifestyle. When a mother cat has kittens, she will bring back the dead animals to her baby kittens. That's just another part of her instincts.

If your cat is eating different things such as wool this might mean one of two things. Either your cat needs some extra fiber in its diet or your cat is getting stressed out and bored. If your cat loves to be with you twenty four hours a day than the cat might show this type of aggression towards things made from wool. You may also notice your cat scratching on different things such as your furniture and television set. You can either by little covers which go over the claws, get your kittie declawed or you can try to find a way of dealing with it. You can also purchase a scratching post and set it next to the items that your cat is scratching.

Cats make good companions and they will also lower your blood pressure. Something about petting a fury cat will make you calm and therefore help out your stress and blood pressure. They will also teach you patience. If you have no patience to begin with I wouldn't suggest buying a cat. I also wouldn't buy a cat if you are renting because what happens if you can't find a place that will allow cats. A lot of cats end up in animal shelters because the landlord will not let them keep the cat.

Sometimes cats can show obsessive behavior such as eating its own fur. Cats will often do the same things over and over again. Our cat always jumps on the same spots and does the same thing every day. Our cat also loves to walk right in front of you and stand there, tripping you. There's nothing you can do but hope you dont hurt the cat by tripping over it. Our cat also wants to go into our basement all the time but the second he gets down to the bottom step he will run up the stairs faster than lightning.
