When Thou took my place in judgment sore
That I, from sin, should ever flee,
And my iniquity to deplore.
Cause me to feel Thy anguish and pain
Upon the cross where Thy blood did flow,
That all within me would restrain
My sinful ways that brought Thee woe.
Cause me to die with Thee on the cross
Where Thou took my guilt and my shame,
And so destroy my horrid dross,
And bring glory to Thy sacred Name.
Cause me to rest in the tomb
From waywardness that brings all strife,
The leave behind defeat and gloom
And walk in Thy victorious life.
Cause me to hold Thy nail-scarred hand
Always firmly in trust and love,
And live and walk and ever stand
We Thee my Savior and my Love.
