What can be attributed to the issue of infertility in marriage are many. One major factor in impotency of male. When the male organ (Pennis) cannot maintain erection, it would be difficult for spermatozoa to be transferred to the Uterus of the female for possible fertilization.
Ordinarily, Spermatozoa should be produced in large quantity and released by the male organ (Pennis) during ejaculation. The number of sperm count is an indication of the quantity of spermatozoa that would be available for fertilization. However, when the sperm count is low, there is tendency for these not to fertilize the egg of the female.
Abortion is another major issue. When abortion is not properly carried out by the female, this can lead to the damage or infection of the Uterus to the extent that it may not be able to hold spermatozoa for possible fertilization.
When Spermatozoa of the male are watery that is, not strong enough, this can also make fertilization process difficult to be achieved. Ignorance of couple can further encourage infertility. For fertilization to take place, couple must have sexual intercourse at the appropriate time of the day and month. If couple meets during the afternoon, there is tendency for the Spermatozoa to be hot. However, high temperature kills Spermatozoa and thus makes it impossible for fertilization to take place. When couple meet during the 'safe days' of the menstrual cycle, fertilization will not be achieved.
Infection of male organ by sexually transmitted diseases like Gonorrhea, Syphilis among others can further lead to infertility while the infection of the Uterus by microorganisms can also encourage it.
Other factors like irregular menstrual flow can lead to infertility. It is of note that during the menstrual cycle, egg is released (ovulation).Without the release of egg therefore, fertilization will not take place.
From the foregoing, either the male or female should not be blamed exclusively for infertility until it has been confirm by medical doctor. However, what is important is that youths should abstain from pre-marital sex so as not to be exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, which can lead to infertility after marriage. Married couple should also be committed to each other and avoid adultery and fornication. Abortion should also be avoided by the youths and married couple so as not to be exposed to the inherent dangers in the future. Couple should further imbibe the habit of having sexual intercourse when the temperature is cool and during the 'unsafe period' and should always consult doctor for medical attention anytime a problem arises.
