When a women has this kind of infection it usually occurs in the pelvic area. This is called a vaginal infection. The causes of this infection are from diabetes, douching and Antibiotics. Another agent is when the immune system has become weak. Some others are too much powder in the underwear, pads or tampons with perfume. Other causes are different kinds of sprays and wearing underwear that is to tight. Yeas infections are more common in women than men. At some time in a woman's life they will have Candida.
There are several different symptoms of this infection. Some of these are redness, itching, a bad odor (fishy) and burning. Another sign is a white thick discharge.
The infection can be treated with an antibiotic. Another treatment is an internal cream called Monistat or Lotrimin.
A yeast infection in the month is known as thrush. Thrush is caused by the same fungus as the vaginal yeast infection. It is caused by some of the same things that cause other yeast infections. However in the mouth there will be redness and sores develop with the growing fungus. Some other causes are the lack of good health or taking chemotherapy. Others are being young/old or taking medications such as steroids.
Thrush is more common in infants than adults. All diabetics are at risk to have oral thrush. This is cause by the high amount of sugar in the mouth. Candida can feed off of sugar. Another cause for the thrush is a lengthily dose of antibiotics. People with dentures that don't fit well may get it.
The symptoms of the oral fungus are white sores on the tongue and in mouth. They can be only one or many sores.
There are certain two types of testing for the organisms of Candida. They are culture of the sores in the mouth or scrapings from the sores. This is placed under a microscope to examine.
Infant usually get better without treatment. However adults are not as lucky they have to be treated. In some severe cases a prescription mouthwash called nystatin maybe used. Also clotrimazole lozenges may be used. If the cause of the infection is antibiotics, acidophilus caps over counter may help. Another is eating yogurt if it not severe. Also using hydrogen peroxide weaken to 3% to rinse with may be of help. If the infection does not clear up there are other medications to be prescribed.
