Causes of Yellowing Eyes

Jennifer Kirkman
There are a great number of conditions which can cause yellow eyes. One of them is jaundice, a very common condition with people. The reason jaundice occurs in the first place is due to the production of too much bilirubin put out by the liver. Jaundice is a key symptom for many other underlying diseases as well which I will explore here for you.

Hepatitis is a very common cause for having tiredness, a lot of abdominal pains, joint pains, and yellowing of the eyes. What causes hepatitis A, B, or C, is due to infections from viruses that you may be carrying, or liver damage from over-consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Cirrhosis of the liver is another disorder which causes yellowing of the eyes, along with impotence in men, abdominal distension, nosebleeds, and there may also be a significant amount of nosebleeds associated with Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis of the liver is commonly caused by consumption of too much alcohol, hepatitis B, and possibly some medications.

Sickle Cell anemia is another disease that has several symptoms including yellowing of the eyes. It also causes weakness, itching, delayed puberty patterns, and many night sweats. In this disease, it is the red blood cells that all have an abnormal shape to them and therefore won't allow smooth traveling through the blood vessels where they need to go in order for a person to stay well. Another problem with Sickle Cell Anemia is the fact that they can block blood flow altogether, causing a sickle cell crisis. People of African-American descent are most likely to get this blood disorder that causes so many other medical problems.

Sometimes the causes of yellow eyes are due to bile duct obstructions. In the case of this happening, the skin is quite itchy and feels warm, along with vomiting, and also an upset stomach. Blockages of the bile ducts are often caused by a tumor of the pancreas, possible gallstones blocking the bile duct path, and inflammation problems.

Cancer of the pancreas is another reason for yellowing of the eyes. It not only causes that, but a lot of lethargy, weight loss that is unexpected, pallor of the skin, vomiting and upset stomach, stools that are pale, diarrhea, and depression. Back pain is also another symptom that is not uncommon.

If you have yellowing of the eyes or your loved one does, along with some of these symptoms, it is best to seek your doctor's advice about the problem. Whatever the case is, it needs to be looked into and is too serious of an indication to ignore it.
