Cavemen Tv Show

Fall-TV

Well, we have all seen the Geico commercials featuring that group of cavemen living in modern day society. Personally, I have never found the commercials to be very funny. So naturally when I heard they were spinning these commercials off into a sitcom on ABC I was a bit baffled. Is there nothing that Television executives won't try for ratings? Having said that, you never know what might be the next hit series. Stranger things have been popular.

The premise of the ABC show Cavemen has neanderthal friends Joel, Nick and Jamie attempting to fit into a modern suburban community. The show portrays the three cavemen as pretty much your average guys, with the same wants and needs as modern man. As with many minorities in modern society the cavemen are forced to deal with stereo-types and prejudice. The cavemen date, socialize and work just like everyone else and their only desire is to blend in.

The early buzz on Cavemen is not great. Most of the early critic reviews on the show were less the flattering. For the most part the show is rumored to be confusing and humorless. Labels like that usually mean death to a sitcom. Another early issue this fledgling series dealt with was the late recasting of one of the main characters. Cavemen will air Tuesday nights at eight, which means it is the lead show for ABC's Tuesday night line-up. Personally, I think the show would do better if it followed and already popular show rather than having to start the night on it's own. It is positioned to air against returning shows like NCIS, Bones, The Biggest Loser and Beauty and the Geek all of which have an established fan following. The chances of viewers departing from their hour long series to gamble on the fact that they will enjoy a half hour sitcom is pretty slim, so Cavemen will have to rely on viewers that are not already involved in one of these other programs to garnish ratings.

With all these complications who knows what will happen with Cavemen. It isn't impossible that the show may triumph and overcome its early obstacles. However, early opinion has it on the cutting room floor before the Holiday season. Personally, I don't know if I will be tuning in for Cavemen. Although I am not committed to another show during that time slot, the premise of the show simply doesn't interest me. If I am surfing channels Tuesday night at eight maybe I will stop on ABC to see for myself, like I said before stranger things have happened.
