Caylee Anthony

Web of Lies

Patsy Jones
As the family of Caylee Anthony plans a prayer vigil Sunday evening in hopes of a safe return for the missing 2-year-old, Caylee's mother remains behind bars, and numerous questions remain unanswered. There seems to be no reasonable explanation offered by Casey Anthony never reported her daughter missing, though she apparently had not seen Caylee since June 9, when she allegedly dropped her off at a babysitter's apartment. Her mother, Cindy Anthony finally made the call after it became apparent that Casey was lying about her daughter's whereabouts.

Published reports indicate that Casey claimed to have been conducting her own investigation. She told detectives she dropped Caylee off at the babysitter's house on June 9, but that the child was not there when she returned to pick her up. She claims she visited clubs her babysitter frequented in hopes of locating the babysitter, identified by Casey as Zenaida Gonzalez. However, investigators discovered the apartment where she claims to have dropped Caylee has been vacant for 5 months. Gonzalez was finally located, but she told authorities she did not know Casey or Caylee. Casey was shown a picture of Gonzalez and admitted she did not recognize her.

Friends of Casey have described her as a habitual liar, and detectives assigned to the case are working their way through the web of lies Casey has told them so far. She told deputies she worked for Universal Studios, and that there were people there who could vouch for her. When deputies checked into this, they found that neither she nor the people she named were employees of the park.

While the Anthony family is now attempting to present a united front, it seems obvious from the transcripts of the series 911 calls and the recordings of calls made by Casey to her mother from jail that the relationship between Cindy Anthony and her daughter is, at best, a troubled one, and Casey's demeanor, not only during the calls but during her court appearance is not what one would expect from a mother whose young child is missing. Meanwhile, a phone call made to the family regarding a possible sighting of Caylee in the Orlando airport, reportedly boarding a flight for Atlanta is being looked into, but investigators do not think the tip is reliable.

One thing is clear. Someone, somewhere knows what happened to Caylee. My gut tells me Casey Anthony knows a good deal more than she's told authorities. Hopefully, when she does decide to tell investigators what really happened to Caylee, it won't be too late.
