Cayman Suites Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland - a Review

Beth Benson
Cayman Suites Hotel, located at 12500 Coastal Highway in Ocean City, Maryland is a block and a half away from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches. Booked through Expedia for five days and four nights for a well-needed vacation, Cayman Suites Hotel's Web site looked very appealing. The availability of a king bed suite or a double bed suite that both have pull out sofa beds, a full kitchenette, HD television, DVD player, separate living quarters, and a balcony. The photos provided made it seem like a one bedroom apartment almost. Completely gorgeous, clean, decorated in floral prints, and even each room had a beautiful plant. When we saw the photos and the location close to the beach, for $550 total, we didn't delay booking our vacation four months in advance.

Upon arrival, the outside of Cayman Suites Hotel looked big and cozy. The lobby was very small and contained a shelf full of visitor's guides, an elevator, and a door that entered the covered pool area, which was also very small. The gentleman that greeted us and assisted us in checking in was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and thoroughly explained the check in and checkout procedures. At this point we were ready to unload the car, throw everything into our room, and head to the beach!

As we walked to our room, the scenery was a little upsetting. The walkways to our rooms were all outside, looking down onto people's backyards. The walls along the corridor were chipped and wearing. Upon entering our room, we walked directly into the living room area and were greeted with a musty smell. The smell seemed to comprise itself of stagnant water and wet dog. The living area was complete with the pull out sofa bed, large HD flat screen television sitting on an off white dresser, a small table with two chairs, another small table, and our kitchenette which was complete with a refrigerator, microwave, stove, and dishes.

A small hallway connected the living area to the bedroom. The hallway contained a small storage area, hangers, an iron and ironing board. Across from that was the bathroom. The bathtub was small and had some sort of rust stains around the edges. There was a shampoo and conditioner dispenser that was empty and no other small bottles to be found.

Entering the bedroom, there was a television, two chairs, long dresser, two double beds, and the balcony entrance. The musty smell travelled into the bedroom as well. Both beds were firm, with two not so fluffy pillows, and the comforter was very thin. Opening the curtain to our balcony, it was equip with two chairs and a small table. Looking out over the balcony was part of the parking lot below that had been flooded from the rain the previous night, not a pretty sight.

There were no continental breakfasts provided or anything fancy due to the fact that each suite had their own kitchenette. The daily maid service was very polite and made sure that we had everything that we needed.

All and all, even though the rooms did not reflect the advertising pictures as a brand new, spotless, top 10 hotel, it was perfect for those vacationers who were not in their rooms more than an hour or two a day and just wanted a nice place to lay their head for the night after enjoying the sights of Ocean City, Maryland. A bit pricey for the overall picture, but being less than three minutes walking distance from the beach seems to be worth it.
