CBS Canceling Another Long Time Soap

As the World Turns Joining Guiding Light as a Memory

September is fast becoming a dreaded month for CBS soap opera fans. CBS is canceling another long time soap. As The World Turns ends September 17th 2010 after fifty-four years on the air. Guiding Light was canceled last year and it's final air date was September 18th 2009 after fifty seven years on television and for fifteen years before that it was broadcast on radio. I have watched CBS soaps for as long as I can remember and As The World Turns and Guiding Light has always been my favorites. My Mother watched the soaps to as far back as she could remember. Both my grandmothers watched the soaps. No matter where I was I could be sure I would be able to watch my favorite soaps.

As The World Turns launched the careers of many movie stars such as Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei, Julianne Moore and many others. As The World Turns received numerous awards over the past 54 years. In 2010 alone they received these awards

2010 Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Michael Park (Jack Snyder)

2010 Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Maura West (Carly Tenney Snyder)

2010 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series" Julie Pinson (Janet Ciccone Snyder)

2010, As the World Turns was nominated for a GLADD Media Award for Outstanding Daily Drama

Fans will never forget their favorite super couples Jack Snyder and Carley Tenney Snyder, Bob and Kim Hughes, Tom Hughes and Margo Montgomery Hughes and Holden Snyder and Lily Walsh. As The World Turns will be sure to have many sad and happy endings to the show. Guiding Light brought back several cast members that were not on the show for awhile and As the World Turns will I am sure do the same thing. They already brought back John Dixon back as the doctor to try and save Chris Hughes.

What will the final episodes be. Will Chris Hughes die or will something save him? Will it be a miracle cure or will the death of someone else give him the heart he needs? Will Carly and Jack stay together? What about the baby Janet is carrying? Will John and Lucinda end up back together again? We just have a couple more weeks to find out all these answers and more. I am sure I will need a box of Kleenex, just like I did with Guiding Light.

I hope this is the last time I have to hear CBS canceling another long time soap. I do not want to watch another talk show so I guess CBS will loose me as a viewer when 2:00 PM comes around just like they have with the 3PM slot.

Sorry for you lost. Hope they never touch the AMC soaps. Those are the ones I grew up watching. I watched them with my grandmother and mother growing up, too.
