CBS Lets One Man 'Live for the Moment'

Reality Rehash
Jeff Probst is known for doing Survivor but tonight he left the beach behind and hosted a CBS special called Live for the Moment. The show was basically a Make a Wish on a grander scale and for a man named Roger Childs. Roger discovered his illness while mowing the lawn and was told that eventually he will lose movement of both his hands and possibly his legs as he was diagnosed with ALS. He was also told the he had two to five years to live and suddenly began living his life to the fullest everyday. The show took that one step further and for an entire week gave Roger, his wife and two sons the chance to have memories that would live on forever and shared them with us.

After being greeted by Jeff at his sons soccer game, Roger was given a journal where his adventures would be revealed and he could leave notes and pictures to create a scrapbook. Roger, his wife and two sons then began their first trip to the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Roger has always had a love for space and passed it down to his sons. There they met astronaut Buzz Aldrin who took them on a tour of the NASA hanger and later invited them to view an amazing take off of one of the shuttles. You could tell how amazing the trip was for the entire family, it was something they would all remember and was amazing to watch.

After the NASA trip, only Roger and his wife were featured during most of the remaining episode as they traveled to California for Roger to complete somewhat of a pilots license. He once wanted to fly a plane himself but with the loss of his hand movements he could no longer reach for that dream. Jeff brought out a fighter jet and Roger's eyes grew wide. He jumped into the plane, after some help with his wife, and off he went. You could tell Roger was having the time of his life as he told the pilot to do more roles and loops. He landed a happy man but it was time to move on to yet another adventure.

The next stop was just for Roger as he met his best friend from college in the Colorado mountains. There they caught up on almost twenty years of not seeing each other and discussed Roger's love for skiing, which he gave up after being diagnosed with ALS. They flew to the top of a mountain in a helicopter and after getting over some initial jitters, Roger and his friend started their decent. Roger feared that with his lack of motion in his hands and loss of strength in his legs that he could no longer ski but after going down the mountain, with Jeff behind him half the time, he once again realized what it was like to live freely.

Roger's last stop was then his home town of San Diego. There he flew in a Navy helicopter and was greeted by his entire family and friends. Several people were happy to see him and his warm welcome was greeted with many surprises. His college roommate started a fund for ALS research in his name, he was awarded an honorary pilot license from the NAVY and his sister set a fund of $80,000 for his sons to attend college. Overall Roger's story was inspiring and hopefully they will feature another person on Live for the Moment. If you enjoyed the show let us know and maybe it will help CBS bring it back for more.
