Two & a Half Men has won over CBS viewers with the show's variety of characters. The mix of characters is what makes Two & a Half Men so funny. Alan is an uptight, serious character. His uptightness plays well off the several sarcastic characters on the show. Charlie is a sarcastic, self-absorbed character. Their mother Evelyn (Holland Taylor) is the same way. Charlie's housekeeper Berta (Conchata Ferrell) likes to stir up trouble and throw in her own witty remarks from time to time. Add in the ignorance of Alan's son Jake and the different character interactions provide for hilarious television.
The strong ratings Two & a Half Men receives have led CBS to renew the comedy series for three more seasons, through the year 2012. The renewal will take Two & a Half Men through their ninth season. The show is consistently ranked within the top 20 programs on television. Charlie Sheen has been nominated for a 2009 Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Charlie Harper on Two & a Half Men. In addition, Jon Cryer has received a 2009 Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Alan Harper on Two & a Half Men. CBS's three year renewal of Two & a Half Men should help give CBS an edge over other networks in the ratings.
Over their six seasons, Two & a Half Men has seen some drastic character changes. When the show started in 2003 Jake's ignorance was created by his childhood innocence. Now Jake is a not-so-bright teenager. Charlie spent most of the early seasons parading around his bedroom with woman after woman. Charlie has settled down since and is currently in a long-term relationship. In season six's season finale Alan's ex-wife Judith, who is carrying a baby girl, went into labor.
Fans of Two & a Half Men are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season. Opportunity continues to grow for the CBS sitcom as the characters get older. Watching Jake mature into an adult will be entertaining. The continuous character development has also left viewers with many questions like "how Jake will handle having a sibling?" and "will Charlie ever get married?" Two & a Half Men has performed well for CBS in the past and should continue to do so into the future. Two & a Half Men premieres Monday, September 21st at 9:00pm.
