Do you, like me, find all this rather interesting? I'll give CBS some major kudos when it comes to creating a stir over this coming episode. They have done a marvelous job in wetting the appetites of Survivor junkies everywhere. And those commercial spots? In a word, brilliant.
Having seen last week's Survivor, I always stay tuned for the moment when Jeff Probst says, "Next time, on Survivor!" Who doesn't sit up and take notice of those words? Come on. You know you stop what you're doing and lean forward, straining for some tidbit of what next week will bring. (Yep, again, I'm guilty too). On last week's "Next" moment, they showed a possible injury involving Russell Swan, but it certainly wasn't made out to seem dangerous or life threatening. Just another one of those, "Oops. Another contestant falls to an injury." But that was all about to change. On Sunday, a very late running, Amazing Race hits the screen. And during the commercials what do we have? A new teaser commercial for the Samoan adventure. Bam! I sat transfixed as this dramatic slow-motion piece starts to play out. (I go into much greater detail about this in my other article, Scary Injuries on CBS' Survivor Samoa.) The teaser commercial was exceptional, but the one that showed during Three Rivers really ramped things up. That's when a voice over is heard: "Nineteen seasons... the scariest moment I've ever had on this show." It's Jeff Probt's voice! Now that grabbed my attention.
And just like that, I'm hooked! I've got to know, what's going to happen? I fire up the laptop and start searching. Google, Bing, Yahoo, AltaVista...
My search results? Well, apparently the injuries (if any) are a very well kept secret. I found one website that purported to have the "inside scoop", but once I visited, it was simply comprised of screen shots of the teaser trailer that I'd already swarmed over. Nope. No Survivor satisfaction there.
Is Russell okay? Will a medical evacuation be necessary? Will he remain on the show?
Stay tuned, America!
