CBS's Hit Comedy "Two and a Half Men" Halted for Remainder of the Season
Charlie Sheen's Public Comments and Bad Behavior Are Blamed for the Show's Early Shut-down
A Foxnews.com news story reports that on February 24, 2011, CBS and Warner Brothers Television made the decision to immediately halt production of the show, citing Charlie Sheen's recent erratic public behavior and a series of controversial and inflammatory comments he made in a phone call he made to a syndicated radio talk show, and also in a separate interview he gave to TMZ.
A joint CBS and Warner Brothers Television statement released on February 24th said: "Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of 'Two and a Half Men' for the remainder of the season."
Sheen, who has been undergoing a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program at his Los Angeles home since January 27, 2011, is quoted as having made several defamatory remarks about Chuck Lorre, the show's producer, during his interview with TMZ.
During that interview, Sheen said that "he was solely responsible for the success of the hit comedy," and indicated that it was he alone that "had turned the 'tin can' of a show into 'pure gold.'"
In what could be construed as an anti-Semitic slur, Sheen reportedly used Lorre's real name - Chaim Levine - and called the producer a "charlatan" and a "clown." He allegedly added: "I violently hate Chaim Levine. He's a stupid, stupid little man and a p**sy punk that I'd never want to be like. That's me being polite."
"All these guys told me to 'clean it up," Sheen said. "Well this is me cleaning it the f**k up. All I want is to bring my family together, and I have to deal with all this B.S. politics."
The 45-year old comedian began his at-home rehab immediately after being released from the hospital on January 27, 2011. He had been admitted to the hospital after experiencing "severe abdominal cramps," following an alleged 36-hour long "cocaine bender." Since his release from the hospital, Sheen has called into several radio talk shows and made a series controversial remarks. During one such interview, he advised troubled actress Lindsay Lohan to "work on your impulse control."
After today's controversial and profane public rants, and the consequences that resulted from them, it's evident that Charlie sheen should seriously consider heeding his own advice.
Neither CBS nor Warner Brothers would comment on the future of "Two and a Half Men" beyond this season.

Post a CommentI never watched it due to lack of time, but you did a marvelous job of reporting this talked-about event.
Jon Cryer was the star of the show, in my opinion. Two & a Half Men is a three chord song that's been played too many times. Charlie Sheen obviously has his own issues. Too bad they have to be so public.
As of today th rumors have opened doors to the wildest news
Great report - Charlie needs some serious help.
i always enjoyed that show ..1 day ill have to catch up
Mike, why waste your words on a guy like him?
Reason #2,345,687,456 why one should not mix family, personal poblems, and work into one boiling cauldron of anarchic idiocy ;-) This is a great yet sad piece!
ps while some see the network's reaction as cold, it is far from that. They actually want him to get to help before it too late.
Excellent reporting, Mike! :-) I hope he makes it to Dr. Drew's arms soon. He needs help. He is too talented to go down like this. My prayers go out to him and many do not know how hard it is to kick addiction. It is a life and death battle. Truly.
No loss for the viewing public - the show wasn't that great anyway! rcj
