C.C Sabathia: Headed to New York for Money

Deserves the Biggest Contract in History

Stephen S
When you look around the league today, do you notice a more dominant pitcher than C.C Sabathia? The man is at the pinnacle of Major League Baseball success, and he is only going to get better. Therefore, it is logical to conclude that he deserves the largest payday in baseball history. I'm not talking about a measly $20 million a year, I'm talking about the biggest payday a baseball player has ever received. If I was a GM of a major league baseball team, I would give C.C a contract lasting 6 years at a minimum of $30 million a year. I know what you're thinking, that's crazy!, how can you justify that much money for a player? First of all, this guy is a can't miss dominant left handed pitcher. His ERA has been a low 3.72 for his career, with a WHIP of 1.25. Not to mention he is a strikeout master, ranking up there with all the greats in the league, while at the same time being able to outlast any other pitcher in the league with his endless list of complete games. That's just his pitching. He also bats extremely well for a pitcher, batting .271 for his career, and did I mention that he is a pitcher?

You're not going to find many pitchers that play in the league that can do what C.C does on a night by night basis. You're also not going to find many teams that have the cash and the will to make a signing of epic proportions. There are only three teams that have the money and exposure to pay the man, and those teams are the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox, and the Chicago Cubs. The Chicago Cubs look to be the best team to make the steal of the century, because they play in the NL where the value of a hitting pitcher is greater than that in the AL. However, the most logical choice would be the Yankees, who have a history of signing players to large contracts in hope of building a championship caliber team. That team will spend any amount of money if it either helps the fans feel that they are committed to winning, or if they that player can take them to the next level. Obviously, a guy like CC deserves this large payday, and the Yankees would be foolish to not take the opportunity to sign CC for whatever amount of money he needs, and contend for the next 6 years until he runs out of his prime.
