Released: 2009 EMI Records/ Sparrow Records / Six Steps Records
This was a pretty highly anticipated album since David Crowder Band's last CD offering "Remedy" in 2007 was phenomenal. Read my Review of "Remedy" if you haven't had a chance yet at

So any way I got pretty pumped for the release of "Church Music", for a couple months Christian FM Radio had been spinning the first single from the yet unreleased album a beautiful rendition of John Mark McMillan's "How He Loves". So the week of release came and I scampered to the local Hastings Books and Music Store and picked up a copy. I wanted the album so bad I didn't mind paying $15.99, to me it was worth every penny and then some.
I got home peeled off the cellophane wrapper popped it in the stereo and gave it a listen. The first track is an updated ballad version of the 4th century hymn "PHOS HILARON [Hail Gladdening Light]" it is definitely different than most David Crowder Band's past work. With each listen I discover a new lyrical brilliance set to some amazing music.
My favorite song is the title track "Church Music" David Crowder and crew once again step over every musical boundary and put out the most danceable , deep Christian song I've ever heard all set to a 1970's era disco flavor beat. With the hard hitting and catchy chorus " Dance if your wounded, dance if your torn in two, dance if your broken open dance with nothing to loose".
They still captured some amazing rock tracks the song "God Almighty, None Compares" is powerful and the dual lead guitar solo sets it over the top.
There is a great homage to their friends in the band Flyleaf, David Crowder Band takes Flyleaf's metal ballad "All Around Me" and does a 180 with it turning the song into a more hymn style piano based ballad.
I highly recommend this CD if you're looking for some really great upbeat dance music for praise and worship or just to cut loose in your car or home.
With its brilliant mix of rock, techno, pop, dance, and soft love ballads David Crowder band once again sets my expectations pretty high for their next release. Its rare a band in any genre can keep topping themselves album after album but with the grace of God and a message of love they've delivered just that on over four full-length CD's and EP's to date.
I give this CD 10 + stars amazing a must have CD!

Post a CommentThanks for the review. I worked in the Waco area and got to be in the church where David Crowder was but never while he and the band were in town.
I love this. I really love listening to praise music in the car while driving. I can accomplish two things at the same time and worshipping God while I sing. Well done.
