CD Review: "At the Edge of Imperfection" by Joseph Henschel

Joseph Henschel is no stranger to making great rock or contemporary flavored worship and praise music. He spent several years touring on mission trips through America, Europe, and Russia with his band Farewell Down when he felt the call to record a solo worship effort.

His critically acclaimed 2008 release "Capture Me" showed his gifting as a worship leader and songwriter. Now with the release of "At The Edge Of Imperfection" his second solo worship CD, we see a more personal and introspective side to his talents.

"At The Edge Of Imperfection" is 11 tracks of lush melodic and heartfelt songs in the same vein as Chris Tomlin, Coldplay, Hillsong United and Phil Wickham. Songs like "Born To Love You" and "I Will Not Be Silent" really hits home with our need to call upon something greater than ourselves to find peace and healing in our lives. With lyrics like "Your love is all I ever needed, your grace has defeated all my shame, you call me by name" in the song "Awake The Day" it shows the freedom so many long for from our past.

Overall this CD is a great mix of ballads and up tempo songs with a great blend of contemporary worship feel and most with more of a light rock influence. "At The Edge Of Imperfection" is definitely a very personal record charting Joseph Henschel's own trials and personal growth as an artist over the last couple years. It's a great record that will speak into the listener's life as well as sooth for times of personal meditation and worship.

I guess I could sit here all day and tell you how great, well produced and written these songs are, but you will need to experience "At The Edge Of Imperfection" for yourself to decide.
