By now you may be wondering why the term zombie apocalypse has gone viral. Blame it on the CDC! That's right, the zombie apocalypse craze was started by a blog put out by a doctor for the Center for Disease Control in an effort to raise public awareness about emergency preparedness. (Betchya thought we were gonna say zombies, huh?)

CDC Zombie Apocalypse Advice: What To Do When Set Upon By Zombies...Or An Earthquake

With all the buzz about the end of the world and the May 21st doomsday prophecy, you might think there has to be a connection to the zombie apocalypse, but you'd be wrong. While the doomsday 2011 situation in the brainchild of Harold Camping, an 89 year-old internet radio preacher from California, the CDC zombie apocalypse is the work of one Ali S. Khan.£¢'¬¢'¬

In the CDC zombie apocalypse blog post, which for a short time crashed the CDC's servers but is now back up, Ali Khan writes, "There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That's right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency."

Khan's advice for surviving an emergency includes maintaining a bug-out kit full of food, water, extra clothes, medications, knives, a radio, flashlights, batteries and of course, duct tape. So, rest easy, America. You really can solve any problem with duct tape; including, apparently, zombies.
