Fun in the sun is a great way to put it. The 4th annual Clamerica in the tiny little fishing town of Cedar Key, Florida will kick off at 10:00AM with an opening parade. At 10:30 the Tri-County Marine Corps League will hold a flag raising ceremony at the City Park Gazebo. You can also see a golf cart parade, that's right a gold cart parade that kicks off at Palmetto Drive at 1:30PM. There will also be a CLAM COOK-OFF, a Sand'n Shell sculpting contest, kayak free for all with clam shell medallions for all who finish the bash.

CLAMANIA Event will run from 11:00AM to 5:00PM with clam bag races, clam hunts, guess the clam count, a greased pole climb, clam shucking and cooking demonstrations, clam raceways, chuck a mullet toss and a clam farming display. There will be one other event, FIRE WORKS!!!

This is a great way to spend the 4th holiday, having small town fun in a small town. Cedar Key is a beautiful little fishing community located on the Gulf of Mexico in Levy County, FL. Cedar Key offers great fishing, boating and vacation travels to all who want to get away from the big time congestion and hustle of the big city.

This is the fourth year for Clamerica and it gets better each year. There are more activities, more vendors and more fireworks scheduled for this year's event.

The day's festivities are hosted by the Cedar Key Aquaculture Association. You can call (352) 543-6346 or (352) 543-5057 for more information.

Directions are easy, just take Hwy 24 from the Bronson intersection and follow the signs to Cedar Key. While you are there enjoying the event, take time to take in the beautiful island and shops. There are also some great restaurants on the key as well as bars with entertainment.

It will be a little crowded as most events are at Cedar Key. A great place to learn more about the community is at the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce website. Just point your web browser to http://www.cedarkey.org.

Have a safe and fun 4th July holiday, celebrating our freedom; but let's also remember the many of men and women who have made great sacrifices to enable us to enjoy days like the 4th of July. Remember while you are enjoying Clamerica in Cedar Key, a big festival somewhere else or just a backyard BBQ, please don't drink and boat or drive.

Happy 4th of July
JP
