Permanent and Current Exhibits at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art
Their main collection includes legendary Iowan artists Marvin Cone and Grant Wood. Their current exhibition includes plaster and bronze works works from Malvina Hoffman , New York born artist. Four galleries are dedicated to the master printmaker Mauricio Lasansky featuring his colorful and fresh prints that were created by using distinct graphic techniques.
A collection of work from John Buck entitled Iconography is currently on display through August. The exhibit features over 60 works that include a full-array of his work from large-scale sculpture, prints and glass and wood works. Visitors can also explore what life was like for the Romans. The Art in Roman Life exhibit features more than 20 Roman busts as well as glass vessels and ceramic lamps.
Upcoming Exhibits at this Eastern Iowa Art Museum
Upcoming exhibits include Under the Big Top: The Circus in Art which celebrates Iowa's involvement circus development. The exhibit will feature a variety of whimsical and enlightening works of art focused on the circus theme.
Grant Wood :In Focus will honor the artistic achievements of this historic American artist and will feature some of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art's permanent collection of Grant Wood works of art.
Works from the National Czech and Slovak Museum will be on display beginning in June. As the National Czech and Slovak Museum was impacted by the Floods of 2008, many of their artistic pieces will be on display for visitors to view.
In August, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art will feature a unique exhibit entitled River of Words: Iowa Environmental Poetry and Art. This exhibition features works from Iowa youth range in age from 5 to 19.
And closing out the year, the museum provides patrons with a chance to view a wonderful collection of Norman Rockwell works. The Norman Rockwell: Fact and Fiction exhibit features a collection of watercolors depicting scenes of Election Day happenings in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1944. This wonderful exhibit will also feature the photographs taken by Wes Panek for Rockwell.
When to Go
The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art offers free admission every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., otherwise admission is $5.00 for adults and free for children 18 and under and local college students with student ID. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and remains open until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. They are also open on Sundays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
