In Fort Lauderdale, Black History Month is historically celebrated with concerts, speaking engagements, art exhibits, films, dance performances, and parades. Below are four of 2010's most entertaining and educational weekend events honoring the accomplishments of African-Americans in the Sunshine State and nation-wide. All events are FREE!

SUNTRUST SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH
Sunday, February 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, 2010 - Riverwalk, Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Produced by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the Jazz Brunch Series includes performances by Ruby Baker, Stamps Jazz Quartet, Riverside Band, and Moose and Bulletproof Blues Jazz Band. Relax and enjoy Fort Lauderdale's scenic Riverwalk 11AM-2PM each Sunday. These jazz artists will provide soulful and outstanding sounds for your listening pleasure.

REMEMBERING OUR ROOTS
Saturday, February 13th, 2010, Riverland Park

The Riverland Elementary Chorus, Riverland Fit Kidz Club, Warfield Park Double Dutch Team and the Roots and Culture Dance Team will perform live to "Remember Our Roots". NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY (NSU) PRESENTS ARCHBISHOP DESMOND TUTU
Friday, February 26th, 2010

On the campus of NSU, Black History Month is recognized with several events occurring almost every day in February. Notably, is the Distinguished Speakers Series Presenting Archbishop Desmond Tutu from 7PM-8:30PM. This event will be at the Don Taft University Center Arena. Reception is FREE; tickets are required for admission to speaking engagement.

SISTRUNK PARADE AND STREET FESTIVAL
Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The largest event celebrating Black History Month in Fort Lauderdale is the Sistrunk Festival. Enjoy afro centric international foods, fellowship, networking, local and national entertainment, family activities and a health fair. The parade begins at 8:30AM followed by the festival from 11AM -6PM on Sistrunk Blvd. Both events will be held rain or shine.

Attendance to these area events provides fun, education and culture in celebrating Black History Month 2010. Enjoy in style amongst the palm trees and sunshine of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ujamaa![1]
