Celebrate July 4th with Old Fashioned Fireworks on Chincoteague Island, Virginia

As Independence Day approaches, many residents and tourists of the Eastern Shore of Virginia are inquiring where they can witness the best fireworks. There is no better place than beautiful Chincoteague Island, Virginia located off of VA-175. This island is home to the famous Chincoteague ponies, numerous seafood restaurants, and The Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman's Carnival.

The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their 84th annual Fireman's Carnival every Friday and Saturday July 2nd through August 1st. The old fashioned carnival which features live entertainment, rides, games, raffles and delicious food opens at 7pm and closes at 11pm. A special old fashioned fireworks display will take place on Saturday, July 4th at 10pm across from the Carnival grounds on Main Street. The most convenient place to view the fireworks is on the Carnival grounds. It is best arrive to the carnival early to secure the perfect spot for you and your family to enjoy the fireworks. There is no fee to enter the Carnival grounds.

Visitors are reminded that there will be no parking on the Carnival grounds on July 4th. Visitors may park at Chincoteague High School located at 4586 Main Street or in the surrounding area. For your convenience, the Pony Express will have three operating trolleys transporting visitors from various bus stops on the island to the carnival grounds free of charge beginning at 5pm. There will also be a free shuttle service from Chincoteague High School to the carnival grounds beginning at 6:30pm.

The Pony Express and the shuttle service will only provide free transportation for the evening of July 4th. This service is sponsored by Pony Express and the Town of Chincoteague to alleviate traffic and parking congestion on the holiday.
