Memorial Day Weekend is a time to celebrate. Here are a few tips and ideas on how to celebrate the weekend with your children:

Visit the United States Mint

Visit the United States Mint for free and interesting fun. Children and adults can watch the process of making currency. The David Rittenhouse Room contains a variety of historic artifacts, coins and medals. You're the facility alone or take a 45 minute guided tour. A trip to Philadelphia isn't complete without a trip to the US Mint.

Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with lots of activities including games, balloons, jugglers and more. There is a huge park and play area for children of all ages to enjoy. Pack a picnic lunch and treat the family to lunch in the park. Admission to the park is free. Other activities may cost money.

Go Fishing at Linvilla Orchards

Take the family for a day of fishing on Orchard Lake at Linvilla Orchards, right outside of Philadelphia. No fishing licenses are required. You can bring your own rod or rent one. Bait is available for purchase. Each fisherman can take home one fish for free with admission, additional fish are $9 ea. Call before going to confirm fishing hours.

Have fun at the Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo will have their kick off weekend May 24th-25th. Children will enjoy activity tables, live animal demonstrations, talks with zookeepers and more. On Saturday, children can view a live sheep shearing demonstration. These festivities are free with admission. Regular admission is $17.95 for adults and $14.95 for children ages 2-11. Parking is additional for non-members.

Visit one of the many beaches!!
Although Philadelphia itself does not have any beaches, there are many beaches in surrounding areas. Take the family to the beach to celebrate memorial day weekend.
