Celebrate National Writing Day on October 20, 2009

The Congressional resolution was passed earlier this month to proclaim National Writing Day would be celebrated on October 20, 2009. It is a joint project between the National Writing Project and the National Council of Teachers of English. According to the National Writing Project organization the National Writing Day is a day to "celebrate the foundational place of writing in Americans' personal, professional, and civic lives"

Writing is an important skill for everyone to have. To write well one has to be able to read well. You must also have a grasp of grammar, spelling and sentence structure. A good writer is also passionate about the subject being written about and must possess a grasp of wordcraft that lures the reader into the story or article.

It was once feared by many teachers that writing would be a lost art. These days, thanks to the power of the internet and media devices, good writing skills are more important than ever. Both personal and business communications rely on the ability to portray the meaning behind the message clearly and effectively.
