The 4th of July is a fun time in Southern California. The weather is warm but not too hot to enjoy being outside with friends and family. A BBQ or a Carnival is a fun way to spend the summer time. The 4th of July, specifically, brings to mind fireworks.

If you live in Southern California, you know that most of the cities have now outlawed fireworks. I remember being a kid and helping my dad light the fireworks and watching in amazement. This is a feeling that most kids are not getting to experience. However, just because you can light them doesn't mean you can't watch them and see a great show.

I live in Yorba Linda, CA, a small upscale city with a hometown feeling on the outskirts of Orange County. It's the kind of town that has horse trails next to the sidewalks and there are many city parks, most of which Equestrian Arenas where you can let the horses run free. The town motto is "Land of Gracious Living." Everyone knows everyone else and there is a sense of family in the community.

Here in Yorba Linda, CA the city celebrates the 4th of July with the "4th of July Spectacular." The festivities and entertainment begin at 4pm. The event takes place at Veterans Park at 4756 Valley View Street. This park is an expansive park that allows for a large quantity of people. There is parking in the nearby school, shopping center, and in the neighborhoods. I went last year and there were a lot of cars but it was well organized and maintained by the police department directing traffic. It didn't take any time at all to find a parking spot and arrive at our destination.

Upon arriving you will see families sprawled out on blankets staking out their spot for the night showing of fireworks. Bring a blanket and stake out your spot. While waiting there is entertainment by the band "Skinny Little Twits." They are a classic rock band who were influenced by such bands as the Eagles and Eric Clapton. They have been playing shows, coffeehouses and performing all around Southern California since they were founded in 1991. They also had the honor of being the opening act to Weird Al Yankovic in 2000. If you would like more information and samples of the music for the Skinny Little Twits you can check out their website at http://www.skinnylittletwits.com/index.htm.

Food is also available and sold at stands by local groups. Groups differ each year, and may include local schools and community organizations. Food typically sold is: Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Pizza, Snow Cones, Cotton Candy, Soda, and various other foods.

The kids will have a great time as well. There is always a kids section to this event where they have various items for the kids. In past years they have had a jumper, carnival games, and a large blow up slide for kids to play on.

At about 9pm, there is an amazing fireworks show directly above the park. Patriotic music is played throughout the fireworks display. The show lasts about 20 minutes and is an excellent way to end a fun filled day. The event is a fun and safe day for the whole family. So bring out your friends and family and join us at Veterans Park in Yorba Linda, CA on July 4th. You are sure to have a memorable time with your family.
