Unesco, which stands for the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, was established in 1945, to promote peace and security by promoting international collaborations through education, science and culture to come to respect for justice. The Unesco established April 23 as the international day of the book in honor of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes death on April 23, 1616.

If you always wanted to join a book club, this is the day to do it, after all what better day than book day to join!

Donate books to schools and lower-income children that otherwise could not afford it.

Volunteer in different projects such as First Book or Room to Read.

Organize a dinner and raise some money that will be given to a literacy charity or at a at-risk school or community.

Or you can just take the day to pick up some books and read in the private of your own home, like a book-a-ton.
