Celebrating Halloween at the Office

Getting into the Holiday's Spirit at Work

Halloween celebrations can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Just because you're an adult, it doesn't mean you can't have a little Halloween fun. For adults, one of the best ways to celebrate Halloween-style is to do so at work. You might not dress up and to go trick-or-treating, but a good time can still be had. Read on for some nifty ideas to carry out at the workplace during October to show you can still get your freak on.

1. Put a different-colored sprayed streak in your hair every week during the month of October. With all the new temporary color sprays, this is an easy way to add a little color to your office look for Halloween. Of course, make sure this change in your style is acceptable to your employer.

2. Dress in orange and black for Halloween. These are the universal colors used to represent the holiday. Plus, no matter where you work, you can probably get by with wearing orange and black clothing. According to the Kent Woodlands School website, the color orange signifies harvest (the end of the growing season) and the color black represents death.

3. Another women's costume idea to wear a black dress while carrying (or wearing) a witch's hat. Top this look off with a broom slung over your shoulder on your way across the parking lot. People will get a real kick out of this one. Once inside, place the broom out of the way-- lean the broom in a corner of your office or against the wall.

4. Men may want to get in to the act also. They can dress like their favorite rock stars or celebrities, within the limits of the workplace, that is.

5. If your employer allows dressing up for Halloween, you can show your creativity and sense of whimsy in your costume selection. A few weeks in advance, decide on how you want to dress up-who or what you want to be. Next, make a list of everything you will need to achieve your "look," then plan to shop for all the items. You may even be able to use items you have at home to dress up for Halloween. If you aren't sure who you want to be for Halloween, a stroll through your local party supply store may help you decide.

6. Plan to have a breakfast or lunch potluck as close to Halloween as possible. Co-workers love a reason to celebrate with food.

7. For a special holiday treat, bake a cake in a 9 X 13 pan, ice it with white icing, then place plastic black spiders all over it. Of course, take it to work and surprise everyone with this creepy afternoon treat.

8. Decorating your desk, office, or work area can be another great way to show your Halloween spirit. Spread some of that fake spider web stuff in a corner of your desk or on a small table and scatter plastic spiders and bugs all over it. Place a small dish filled with candy next to it. Pictures of black cats and pumpkins are widely available in October. Affix them with tape to your desk, computer, or the walls of your work area.

9. Bring in a different type of fruit in a Halloween-looking bowl to share with your co-workers. Oranges, grapes, bananas, or the old stand-by-apples are enjoyed by almost anyone. If you want to go all out, try arranging a mixed fruit bowl. It's colorful and allows people to choose their favorites. Place your fruit bowl in the break room or kitchen, if you have one. If not, people dropping in to your office will be thrilled to find a fruit bowl on the corner of your desk. Who doesn't want an afternoon treat?

10. You may find it fun to make up Halloween goody bags for your co-workers. Most grocery stores carry an assortment of decorated small bags to hold treats, so select the ones you like best. Then, buy an assortment of candy. If you like, you can throw in a silly gift like fake vampire teeth or big, red wax lips. Have fun delivering the bags in person. Or place them in the office mailboxes as a great way to brighten your co-workers' day.

Planning to celebrate Halloween at the office can be a real blast. It's possible to work hard and enjoy the season at the same time. Putting some of these ideas to work will assure you and your co-workers have a great time celebrating Halloween.
