Celebrating the Holidays in Cedar Falls - Part 2

Penelope
November and December bring in the cold weather, but they also bring in the fabulous holiday season with a wide variety of fun events for the family. Cedar Falls and Waterloo Iowa have a great list of events for you to enjoy and participate in throughout the holiday season that will keep you entertained and warm!

On Sunday November 5, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be performed at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls at 3 & 7pm. This is a great musical with lots of fun song and dance numbers which will not only entertain, but also educate. The story line involves a young Egyptian boy who was sold into slavery by his brothers because he was favored by his father. Joseph was given a multi colored coat from his father and his brothers just couldn't handle it. Joseph eventually became a king and showed his brothers mercy when there was a famine in the land. The story line is loosely based on the Biblical account found in the book of Genesis. The lyrics and music will have you singing and dancing your way out of the performance. For more information or to purchase tickets for this show, please contact 319 273 SHOW or 877 549 SHOW.

Another upcoming event held at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is taking place November 9. The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra will be performing and are considered one of the most enthusiastic and artistically spirited symphony orchestras of today. The Grout Museum of History & Science located on 503 South St. in Cedar Falls will be having a Holiday Craft Night on November 14. Guests are encouraged to register by Tuesday, November 7 and tickets are ten dollars for members and twelve dollars for non-members. Guests are allowed to make a hanging angel using a lady's hanky. There are also a variety of styles of hankies to choose from. For this event you will need a pair of scissors as well as a creative and decorative attitude. For more information please call 319 234 6357.

Probably the most talked about and celebrated event taking place in the Cedar Valley is the Festival of Trees. This annual event has been attracting crowds for years. Stop in and see the beautifully decorated trees as well as lots of fun activities to participate in. The Festival of Trees will be taking place beginning November 16 and ending November 19. This is one vent you will not want to miss out on this holiday season. The Festival of Trees also takes place at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls, located on the University of Northern Iowa's campus. For more information on this beautiful and decorative event, please call 319 268 3161.

Another exciting holiday event will be taking place in Waterloo Iowa on December 2. Holiday Traditions are being showcased in the Snowden House located on 306 Washington Street from 1-5pm. Cost is $6 for adults and $10.00 for children. Children will learn the history behind the carol "Silent Night" and other popular Christmas carols. They will also be introduced to traditions from other countries by making a German glass ornament, a Dutch bell, and a Norwegian Krum kaka cookie. For more information on this culturally festive and educational event please call 319 234 6357.

A final holiday event taking place in Cedar Falls is the beloved performance of A Christmas Carol. This Gallagher-Bluedorn tradition will be taking place on December 3 at 2pm and 7pm. Charles Dickens' endearing play presents a heart tugging drama in which Ebenezer Scrooge turns from his humbug ways and delights to give and celebrate Christmas with a joyful heart. This play has been causing generations of Christmas celebrators to focus their hearts on giving, for it is more blessed to give than receive.

This play also involves a pre-show party where kids can create a special holiday gift for mom and dad beginning at 12:30 and 6:15pm in the lobby. Youth tickets can be purchased for $1 for up to children with the purchase of an adult ticket. For more information on this performance please contact 319 273 SHOW or 877 549 SHOW.
