Litha is the celebration Summer Solstice which is the longest day of the year, Midsummer. The Solstice is the time when the sun is at the height of its power. This is the time when Mother Nature is producing fruits, lush greenery and vegetables of summer. Nature flourishes and Litha is the opposite of Yule. Held on June 21 the summer solstice marks the time when the Sun god has attained his greatest strength. The days will begin to grow shorter as the nights begin to grow longer.
At Midsummer, the Sun has reached it's zenith, and blazes in all it's glory. Litha is also a time of transition; After Midsummer, the sun begins its yearly descent. The days will get shorter and shorter until the Winter Solstice when it begins its rise to power again. Midsummer has also long been revered as one of the most magical days of the year. It is the perfect night for divination of all types e.g.,: scrying, the art of trancing and seeing visions in smoke, fire, or even water. You can scry in a camp fire, barbecue fire, looking into candle flame of fill a black pot with water. If you are lucky enough to have your own natural stream or pool then this can be used for scrying.
It is believed that on this night, the veil between our world and the world of the Otherworldis lifted especially the veil to the fairyworld. Celebrating Litha is a great family occasion so eat outdoors, have a barbecue, use bright colours, play, sing, dance and enjoy this marvellous festival.
Yule V Litha:
Twice a year, on the Solstices, the Oak King and the Holly King do battle to see who will reign for half the year. In the Winter, the Oak King wins; in the Summer, the Holly King reigns victorious.
HAPPY LITHA and brightest blessings
